Just got my Alpine MRP-500 (Mono amp). The manual says to use 8 gauge power wires and a 60A fuse.

Not all 8AWG amp kits come with 60A fuses. Does it matter if the fuse is more or less than 60A or do I have to match it?

Also, any recommendations on where I can get the amp kit for cheap?

Look for a Power Acoustik amp kit. They're nice quality and are dirt cheap, especially if you can find one on ebay. That, and Wal-mart's Scoche will do you just fine with the kind of power you're running. Knukonceptz also has reasonably priced wire that is very high quality.

The fuse is designed to prevent too much current from passing through the wire and correspondingly setting your car on fire. The maximum recommended fuse size for an 8 guage wire is 50 amps, although you should be okay with 60, especially if you use good quality wire. Using a fuse smaller than recommended is perfectly safe, you just may be replacing fuses more often than you'd like :p

Although I would agree with the guy above me, use 4 gauge and don't worry about it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

is it actually junk? bare with me as im new to this so ur opinions is kinda how im making my decisions. if it's good, ill buy it.

i just went to walmart and they had a strange scosche amp kit, some of the power wires were 4 gauge and another power wire that was 9 gauge..and the ground was 9 gauge....so im not sure where to get this 8 gauge scosche amp kit other than online.

why 4 gauge when the manual itself says 8 gauge? i thought you need lower gauge's as the distance increases, as well as power. this amp is 500W RMS.

Turst me, I went 8 AWG on my first kit, now that I have upgraded I need bigger wire. You might aswell do it right the first time and not have to buy another amp kit later. If you are serious about car audio run 4 AWG or even 0 AWG for future upgrades. You will thank me later in your life.

ahhh gotcha, it is for future changes. thanks for the clarification, i'll def consider that. the thing is, i dont like very loud bass that shakes the block, and i plan on only running one 12" sub. i cant imagine doing more than that, but i'll keep what you guys said in mind.

actually i never asked what gauge to use, i asked if the fuse rating mattered. i also didnt argue, i said i wanted to know why. lot of times people make claims on forums that are ill-advised or just wrong. i like to make my own decision once i have some reasoning behind it.
