Do you know this family? The way the story came off(to me at least), the OP as well as the girl's parents spoil her and give her what she wants. She just wanted more, so she resorted to taking from a family member because she thought it would go undetected.
Also - stealing is stealing, you're right. But. Here's the thing - stealing/downloading songs cant quite be classified in the same situation as stealing money from her brother. It can, if all you want is an argument, but realistically it is nowhere near the same. She physically snuck into his room and snatched the cash. With limewire or other download programs, you use the program to do their designed purpose - - - - - download seongs, software, whatever, free of charge in a timely manner. People actually UPLOAD the information INTENTIONALLY so that you can download it and own it. Legally or not.

Your justifications are clearly defense mechanism to make you feel better about your own actions. Stealing is stealing.

There is enough information for me to deduce that the family is full of heartless selfish people.

I remember one time, I was being punished and needed money at the same time, my dad made me pick all of the thorns off the rosebushs outside the house so that I could get 5 bucks to go to a movie with my friends

It seems as though, possibly, you have deeper emotional problems due to something in your past? A single act, which the young girl was reprimanded for, defines the family? If so, I would assume that your family is nothing but a bunch of selfish, egotistical jackasses with no real worth to anyone. But then again, that's just you - - - that doesnt define your siblings or parents, does it?

Once again, this isnt about the family, this is about how/why the girl stole and how to correct it.

Point taken, but my point has nothing to do with how it effects this fuc*ed up economy. It has to do with the values bestowed within this little chicka.
Fact of the matter is, it's widely accepted to "steal" or, as most folks see it, download, for free online. It is not, however, widely accepted that snatching a few bucks from a family member is okay in order to get something you want. For no reason, in fact, is it acceptable. When you do something that most people deem okay and get busted, most people blow it off, although it's not right. When NO ONE sees what you are doing as acceptable, including yourself, then something needs to happen and consequences need to be dealt with. She knew it was wrong, she did it anyways. She needs to learn the lesson that it is NOT acceptable to repeat this action to her family or anyone else for that matter.

Stealing is stealing, and hey any kind of stealing is wrong, I will give you that. Fact of the matter is, stealing some things are worse than others, especiially when the masses give off the impression that it doesnt really hurt anything(i.e. downloading online).

Its acceptable in our generation. There is no need to pay or earn if it isn't required.

No, but this goes back to what I was saying earlier. So many different characteristics and what defines our actions as acceptable or not.

You, me, and 99% of the people on this site do the same thing. It's accepted in masses with a very minute chance of being caught. I download illegally, it's just how it is. It doesnt make me more or less of a person, it just means I'm a sheep following the masses and attempting to push it off as acceptable with the rest of the world.

What the girl did, however, is unacceptable - even by standards of weak-minded infidels.
