Joining 2 different gauge wires

I have stock wiring in my 4runner and I just got some 16awg speaker wire and now I am not sure if I should use it.

I dont think its a good idea to run 1 6gauge and then wire it with the stock gauge wire. since my 4runner is one of the newer models, it doesnt have direct speaker connections, instead it runs from the radio harness to this thing in the door that holds lots of cables and then runs the rest of the wire to the speaker.

What I was going to do is run the 16awg wire from the amp to the harness, but I dont know if its ok. I am giving each front component around 165rms, not sure how much the stock wire is rated for.

It looks like this:

The pink/purple wire is the speaker wire, and I have it currently running to my amp. The wire has been cut from that harness and its joined to another wire that runs to the amp, thats the wire I want to replace with the 16awg.
