JL W7 recone kit

So I have a 13.5W7 and a 12W7 both need a recone. I read an old post that said fixmyspeaker.com repairs them, but they no longer repair them. Anyway, does anyone know a cheaper alternative than going to JL for a recone that would cost 280. I searched google but I couldnt find anything. Any help would be appreciated.

You have no choice but to go to jl. Jl has a contract with their parts supplier that they arent allowed to sell parts used on jl's line to other vendors. Thats one of the reasons i dont buy jl anymore

David at fixmyspeaker/PSI I'm pretty sure can still recone them. Here's the thing though, he isn't able to offer a drop in recone like JL. He doesn't have that crazy cone/surround that the W7 is known for. When he reconed a W7, he removed the standard JL basket and drilled and tapped the top plate on the JL motor and then attached a standard 12 spoke basket and then made a recone for THAT. As you can imagine, this isn't exactly cost effective. It's not that he CAN'T recone W7's (to my knowledge... who knows, maybe he ran out of parts for them), it's just that it's not really worthwhile. The W7 has a "good" motor but there are plenty out there that surpass it. So there's not much sense investing that much cash just to save the JL motor. The only reason they even did the last one was for ****s'n'giggles I think.

sorry but i hope this tesches people not to support JL. there subs cost more because everything has to have special tooling to fit the odd parts and the reason there parts are odd is so you have to come back to them for another several hundred bucks for a recone.

they are just out to make coin and not being nice about it eather...

Sry for the double post... but I'd also like to add one more thing. In the unlikely case that you were to want a custom recone for your W7, he'd only be able to do the 12" W7. The 13.5" W7 has a really really weird sized voice coil if I remember correctly. I think it was like 3.5" VC or something gay like that (thanks JL).
