I feel bad that JL took this route. I think it's more sad that they changed their power ratings before their prices. I wonder if the same thing will happen to their amps later down the road. But, I really doubt that because everybody knows that 1 JL watt is equal to 1.5 watts from any other amp.. hahha.b

how so? as an owner of JL products... I'm sure that they aren't hurting. Anyone that has bought their products knows they are way more expensive than they should be! lol. They must have a huge profit margin. I'm a fan of the product, not the price.

By the way. What's up with them finally selling their product online through an authorized dealer, and choosing Crutchfield as that dealer? Why not sell the product direct, or offer current retailers to sell online?

I also don't think it's the smaller "internet" companies that are hurting JL but rather the Dual stuff and the like. That cheap and ghetto flashy stuff is what the majority of the people out there want. You have to think, there are not a whole lot of people who really care about car audio out there when you compare it to how many people have something other than stock stuff in their car.

Why wouldn't it still be a good match? Will the sub be operating at it's full capacity? No. Will it still sound good and have decent output? Sure. I have a W6 on a 500/1 and it sound phenominal with a good ammount of output.
It was always understood (at least by me) that JL did underrate their subs. Yeah a W7 is rated at 1000W but you could go a little more should you want to use a higher power amp. I've had many retailers tell me that. You could also deduct that by looking at their power charts.

Allthough the yellow area (optimum) was what they reccomended, it usually went a ways before reaching red and then black (thus being not reccommended and voiding warranty).

I just never thought they were underated THAT MUCH. It will still sound good and work fine. You just have the capability to "officially" throw more at it and JL will warranty it.

2 be honest i still have a 10w3v1(my sub was made april 2001) and i love it...i was slamming 600watts all day long to it ...and it was loving it...i got vid 2 prove it..but anyway...will i buy jl subs again....only if they came out with something worth while and when there prices start being more realistic ...cuz for the money there asking ...the performance of the w7 is not matching up to the prices...imho

Just by owning one of there subs and an amp I can tell you overpaid.
