just go buy a dmm for like $20 at radioshack, or sears, etc. and do it yourself. then you'll know it's set right and you'll learn to do it for the next time. takes about a minute or so, not that hard to do.

and i'm sure if you search they'll be plenty of threads on how to use them. could go to edesignaudio.com, there's a quick video tutorial on how to set the gains using one.

My current sub and amp cost me ~$600, and I bet I'm louder.

My subs were that amount shipped to my door. Who here can easily put together a nice bumpin system for 1400 bucks?! I know I can. Hell I've helped install a really budget system for 400 bucks, and sounded pretty good.

Go there and tell them that you want your system tuned correctly. Because right now, it sounds like a kindergartener set it.
Tell them you want:

the low pass filter set to 80 (although 65 isnt bad)

the infrasonic filter set to about 30hz (maybe higher depending on what the box is tuned to)

the bass boost OFF

the gain set by multimeter to:

31.6v if your subs are wired to 2 ohms

44.7v if your subs are wired to 4 ohms

ok, ya i definitely went to sound advice, and they looked at me like i was an idiot when i gave them ur configurations. bass boost needs to stay at +13. 0 bass boost is just stupid. he even showed me what it sounded like with it off and there wasnt even much difference. Also, configuring the amps to the voltages only need to be done if i have more than 1 amp, which is what the guy said.

Also while i was in there, there was a guy who was there that had just spent $10,000 on his sound system from that store. He got 2 JL 13''w7's and all new component speakers, new deck, navigation, and 3 1000/1 watt amps, and was very happy with the purchase.

Dude, i dont care what you guys say, but i bet the sound quality of my JL's will **** your offbrand subs. Any sub can be loud, but if it hits and has excellent quality (for other songs besides just rap, which has simple bass) then it's right for me.

And i'll let you know how those 13''w3v3's sound once i put those l3itches in!!

omg, you're an idiot. configuring the amps voltages' if only running more than 1 amp? bb needs to stay at +13? he's just as stupid as you are. and i highly doubt the sq of your w3s' will beat everybodies "off brand" crap. i had the same subs, as i'm sure alot of others here have had also, and there not anything special imo.

Wow. You just took all our advice and threw it out the window because all the dumbasses at sound advice said so. Brilliant. And as far as raping our 'offbrand' subs in SQ, bullshit. The installer has no f'n clue on how to set gain or bass boost. He should be shot. Does he even know WTF a multimeter is?! And for the love of God, don't spend $200 on getting 13w3v3's.

You, sir, are the sole reason that JL has a bad reputation.
