JL Audio FTMFW!!!!

planet audio gives a 5 year warranty //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif if installed authorized

i've never had any of my electronics stuff go bad on me, i'm willing to take the risk and pay 1/2 the price by not paying authorized, and if it goes bad, i'd just use the other 1/2 i saved and buy it again or something else...you can definitely say i'm not the 20% portion of the 20/80 rule, as a matter of fact, i'm will to save as much as i can because i can do all the service myself.../rant

point: learn how to do things yourself and don't get ***** at the shop

What??? Doing installs myself has nothing to do with this topic (other than it gave me an additional 1 year & 9 months on warranty). //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I'm doing the install this time and getting it "checked off" by an authorized dealer. Didn't know JL's policy was that way the first time, otherwise I would've done that. Either way....keep doing your thing. I just don't like taking the risk of buying an item like an amplifier and worrying about it blowing out on me in a short time. Thus buying authorized=smart if you can afford it.

I tend not to agree. If you know how to talk to people, especially customer service reps, you can get anything you want. Case in point: When I bought my original 2 Crown Amps off ebay. I called JBL and asked about their policy about buying unauthorized and online. They said, while they cant deter people from doing it, they're still going to support the customer and give them a pro-bono fix that would normally be covered by a factory warranty...

That doesn't apply to JL apparently.

From the website:

"Note: Products purchased from unauthorized dealers are not covered under warranty. Ask your dealer for details on warranty limitations."

So, I'll change my statement to

"Buying authorized=smart if you have the money, but research the company first and make sure it makes a difference if you're worried about warranty".

Better? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

alot of shops won't allow you to get it "checked off" by them, they have to install it for themselves, that equals a sh!t load of money off to them...i didn't know JL allows it to be "checked off" too, i'll have to check up on that...

most good companies don't make bad stuff anyways, its out there but its a very small fraction of a percent, if their stuff is not trustworthy but ALOT of people, their brand would go to hell and they don't want that, not only that, but most internet shops and companies that sell their product for a lot less usually have a DOA policy anyways, and if it worked the first time you hooked it up and it fails down the road, most of the time, its the user that f#cked things up...

products do go bad, but i'd argue its not worth paying retail or close to it and several hundred more for them to install it if thats the only way to get it "authorized"...

but you're right, if you have the money to burn, why not buy from the shop, pay a bunch of money and sit back and relax while they hook it up...
