JL 300/2 too much for ID CTX65CS?

i know ID rates these at 100 watts RMS but has anyone ever run more than that with sucess?
I've talked to the guys at ID and they said that running them over 100wrms was perfectly fine. I'm planning on 165wx2 and they said that would be fine.

Even a one hundred watt amp can be clipped to 200 watts. No matter how big or small the amp if you don't know how to set gains properly, unless the amp is very tiny, you run a chance of blowing a speaker. At least with amp that can produce more power you wont' send it a clipped signal and you can get the most out of the speaker before it begins to distort. Gains for mids aren't hard. Set the hu at 3/4 or so turn up the gain on a track recorded very loud until it's either loud enough or you begin to hear distress. Unless you listen to music like an idiot that usually works well.
