JBL or Planet (entry level/mid level)

I'm looking into entry level and mid level sound systems. I have roughly $500 budgeted for this, and would like the following.

5.25" component front

6.5" 2 way speaker (poss 3 way?)

4 channel amp

I've looked into JBL and Planet as for bang/buck. What do you guys think? Any other recommendations would be great, as well. I've searched the entire forum using certain key words and have an idea on your opinions on Planet. However, I'd like some input from the audiophiles here.

Profile also makes good bang for buck amplifiers.

With some planning and insight, you can make a pretty nice sounding system for $500. Any ideas as to what brands of speakers you are looking into? What vehicle is it going into? Do you drive alone or ferry others most of the time?

I'm putting the system into a Volvo 850 wagon. I usually drive by myself or with my gf in the car.

As for the entire system, I figured I'd just go and grab all items from one label. I'm not competing or anything, but I like to have all my eggs from the same hen.

In this specific hobby, having all your eggs from one hen can be a very, very bad idea. While brand X may have excellent amplifiers, their speakers could be dime-a-dozen throw-aways, or vice versa. Also, if it's just you and your better half, you could omit the rear speakers altogether.

I recommend a Profile 4X60 amplifier, Pioneer Rev coaxials for the rear, and Oz Audio Vector components for the front. It'd sound great and be well within your budget.
