New guy checking in! Love the forum guys!
I have some questions about my stereo I hope you guys can help me out with, or point me in the right direction, without taking too many jabs at my lack of knowledge
Ok here's the deal. I got a system from my friend which consists of:
2 ported boxes(variation of an abc box? Will have drawing later in post)
2 JBL 10" GTI's
1 PG 1200.1
I added this on to an eclipse HU(8v pre outs), clif designs speakers and tweeters, and a JL e6450.
On to the questions.
First off, I tried to set my gains according to the tutorial. I used JL's specs for the e6450, and attempted to calculate the specs for the PG amp. Problem is, I cant figure out what ohm load I have the JBL's wired to. I drew a picture and attached it... JBL's site says 6 ohms for each voice coil. Would that mean each speaker is 12 ohms total? Ive been told they are wired up at 12 ohms, 1.5 ohms, and 3 ohms. Apparently Im not the only one having a problem figuring it out
Next up, I have no clue what this box is tuned to, but I dont like it. It does well when there is something playing with lots of bass, but when I listen to rock(breaking benjamin, story of the year) it's missing a bunch of notes. I know a sealed would be best for that, but Im also into SPL, more so than SQ(dont make fun cuz I have 10s!) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
My question is, what freq would suit me well? 1 box or 2 like I have now? What design box offers good spl, and 'ok' SQ? I have a Dodge Ram quad cab, no back seat, so it can be as big as that area..
Also, what kind of box is this?! Ive been told it's a variation of an ABC box...
Lastly I have to turn my gain way up and add some bass boost as well to get it to thump the way I want.
I have my eq on my HU flat across the board, Non-fade at 8, SSF at 20, and Xover at 80. When I tried 'setting my gains' I made everything flat, got the correct voltage, and I could barely hear any thumping out of the subs.
Sorry this was so long winded. Ive been reading this forum for about 2 weeks now and gathered a bunch of info before I asked anything, hoping to answer these questions myself, but they are a little over my head!
Thanks for any info you can give!
