JBL avalon

if your going for a staging effect, i would put them in the sails or in the kick with a hard crossfire to the opposite listener.

other than that. your door pods with the crazy axis mids are gonna throw your image way off prob.

Edit I take that back. I'm curious to see what it does to have one on axis and one off.

Rawr-DQ, ive heard that alot, a lot of people like the way they were done, and i suppose popping off the pocket and just going there is easiest, but at the same time people think they stick out way too far (i dont, i can have my left foot on the rest to by the kick and not touch anything, this car is huge inside)

shaneb-im sure it would make more of a difference if the crossover wasnt so low (2500hz). the front one is aimed across towards other listeners head, but the vertical axis is off, so its basically their rear end.

im just going to go out on a limb and say my staging isnt that bad. left to right is still clear despite the center tweets, bass is by my feet (thanks mostly to the beast lowend of these jbl woofers), and the sound is i suppose about chest level, depth sucks, maybe arms reach

over summer i sat in the JL audio rep's honda fit i believe it was (some small jap hatchback), two w3 13's i think for sub stage, 2 sets of the cr5 comps in the front (similar to mine, but sunk into the door, flat, angled up ~15degrees and firing straight across) with a tweet on a db cut centered between them, and the other tweets about 1ft apart in the center of the dash near the window facing straight back.

this guy is a tuning guru, and omg, amazing staging while still almost being loud enough for me. def a full score on depth, he got the sound like 10-12 feet infront of the car, and bass was past the windshield.

again, thanks for the suggestions guys, keep em coming=)

soooo

im bored and figured i'd update this

basically i took the subs out, put a cerwin vega vega!84 in a t-line with about 300rms to it, positioned so the sub was where my armrest hole is

that wasn't loud enough after 2-12's on 1200rms, so i took that out, did 4 l5 8in's in a very agressive box, subs in back deck, port in armrest. still need to finish it, but i've been at school and its -3 with windchill right now, so aint happening.

heres some pics

subs out, had this to work with

installed with back seat back on and woofer in, no intermediate pics, it slid right in, cut a hole in seat back, just single layer leather...this is at 1am on a work day btw, between 12 to 15hour Christmas shifts

and for kicks and giggles, how we cut round holes in the ghetto

oh, and before anyone points out how shabbily made that box is, i know

its a temporary test box cuz i had wood and a sub laying around and my friend wanted to buy my subs, and i wanted to try a t-line. i ended up duct-tape-sealing it, my girlfriend thought it was the cutest thing ever, she took the pic below, in her words "awwww it looks like a smiling old man with a comb-over and a funny little hat"

100_0024-1.jpg

basically it sounded fantastic, had great output (most people said it sounded like a single 12 volume wise, but it wasn't loud enough for me.

so i tore it out and put in 4 l5 8's, 4 cube box, like 18sqin port/cube, tuned to 43ish hz

also, avic-f90bt, 18% bronze tints

before anyone asks bout the sub choice, noone else has that, i got it dumb cheap cuz i basically found them in the stockroom when i was cleaning, they're noticably louder than my 12's, and still sound pretty darn good. and although the box is tuned high, it plays 28hz with no problem, plays it better then my 32hz jbl box, that was stuffed so it could play a bit lower.

so on with the build...

basically, with a disapproving girlfriend looking on, and my friends there for some moral support, on a cold snowing winter day i took out the torsion bars that hold the trunk up, and then cut out the back deck

bars:

space inside the car i have to work with...maybe a wall in the future //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

cut it out with a die grinder...went through an entire disk and then some

100_0027-1.jpg

it is a lil sloppy...try cutting a hole on your back wearing gloves while holding the trunk up with your foot so it doesn't fall on you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif disapproving girlfriend went inside to do what she does best...my laundry...and cook me something warm

then i cut the wood for the box, nothing interesting there, make big rectangle into smaller ones...you know how it is

so i was freezing at that point and went inside to enjoy forementioned food/clothes/girl

when she went home i started with the box construction

built a port

100_0030-3.jpg

assembled everything in the trunk

100_0031-3.jpg

i designed some stuff not so well, (with respect to how everything screws together) made it way harder then it should've been, live and learn...first time i designed/cut/built an in-trunk enclosure by myself.

test fit baffle

100_0033-3.jpg

how the port sits, without and with seat

100_0032-3.jpg

100_0037-3.jpg

cut some squares in baffle, ran ~2 inch wide strips of 3/4 in mdf edgewise between subs for bracing, glued and screwed to front and back walls, and along baffle obviously, didnt really take any pics, it was getting late and cold and it HAD to be done, i had to drive back to college the next day.

subs in

100_0034-3.jpg

amps in and wired...this is temp, going to wall the trunk off and cover with tan vinyl to amtch interior

100_0036-3.jpg

temp rigged taillight so i dont get a ticket for that atleast...hasn't saved me from noise violations, tint tickets, no regi....different story though

100_0040-2.jpg

pic of bracing as afterthought...through the port

100_0038-2.jpg

it sounds great, gets very loud, and hasnt blown yet, although i beat it for like 6-10 hours straight driving to and from school

they're all dual 4's, series'd to 8 apiece, and then all run in parallel to give me a single 2ohm load, about 1500rms is being sent to them and they take it like troopers, just gotta be careful on lower notes at max volume or they get a little smelly

im liking these alot more than the 12's, and it's def more impressive...everyone has 12's

i'll meter it in summer, all i have is an AC mic, i may get a termlab for kicks and giggles.

also in summer, i'm building a trim ring around the subs to bridge the gap between box and rear deck, sprayfoaming around to seal it in there, putting some more dynamat in, walling/boxing trunk and doing tan leather instead of gay black carpet, maybe with a backlit JBL jewel if the rep wants to hook me up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

i also want to redo the doors, as the ones in there were a bit of a learning experiment

4 woofers and 4 tweeters, and wrap in matching tan vinyl...leaning towards pioneer d-series, they just sound so good, and would be happy with the about 75rms i could give them if I only used my one highs amp

or i could get 2 more sets of jbl powers and run both amps...1200rms of highs in the front doors. i havnt decided yet

nice build.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

how's the jbl p660c components?

sqpl, i like them, they handle their power nicely, have a very smooth response, and gobs of midbass, i like my midbass, and these more than put out. they're nothing like utterly spectacular(like whip audio loud or focal k3p clean), but for the price there isnt much better out there.

idskot, i want to be able to see them, i'm stiicking with my plan even though i cant really explain it, it will look much cleaner than just a grillcloth over that flapping around

Megalomaniac, you've obviously never been to a college town in upstate new york

im not bad, i never got a ticket in my life before college, cutting way back on my stupidity from highschool, ive been to court 6 times in the last 3 semesters. Trust me, i will get ticketed if its not there. if the law state's it's necessary, i guarantee you that some hick cop up here will notice it's absence and give me a nice fine, or summons, those dicks like to give me summons for friggin nothing.
