Jaguar X-Type + $1,000 Budget

Hey guys. As the title says, I have a 2003 Jaguar X-Type and roughly a $1,000 budget to go to town on my sound system. Here's what I'm thinking:

-Aftermarket head-unit with auxiliary iPod capability (high quality music = must).

-4 new speakers.

-5-channel amplifier.

-dual 12" subwoofers with an enclosure.

-a capacitor.

I'm coming to this forum for a handful of reasons; particularly because I'm not fluent with the car audio shenanigans and because I've had a bad experience trying to mix and match a mono amp with a sub in the past (50-150 rms sub with a 200 rms amp, both at 4 ohms = bad for business). So here's what I'm wondering:

1. Which products would you recommend for all of the above?

2. I assume that the aftermarket head-unit will not suffice in powering the speakers, so I'll need a 5-channel amp, correct?

3. The vehicle is a 2003 Jaguar X-Type. As I'm aware, upgrading the sound systems in this vehicle is rather uncommon. Does it even have the capacity to have an aftermarket head-unit installed?

4. Anything else I should be made aware of and/or stay away from?

I've attached pictures of the head-unit/trunk space/speakers for whatever it's worth. In the trunk, I currently have my mono-amp and sub (both from pioneer) that are out of commission. For what it's worth, the car is in excellent shape and has 26,000 miles //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanks a ton. I appreciate it.

I say increase your budget to atleast $1500, only use 1 sub (either a single 10" or single 12"), are you doing the install yourself? the dash kit will probably have to be a one off kit.

speakers, I say get MB Quart PVI's but I'm a little biased. Crescendo Audio has some nice components for a good price.

if you're stuck on a 5 channel, Hifonics new Zeus line has a badass 5 channel.

sub wise, I say get an AQ HDC 10" or 12" or Fi Q 10" or 12"

prices, sub will run you ~$300, amp ~$400 speakers (if you go with MB Quart PVI, if you go with Crescendo it'll be more like $200), ~$300, that leaves you with $500 for building a box, wiring and headunit if you go with my $1500 budget.

I'm gonna have bestbuy do the install. I also figure that I could buy an enclosure with 2 subs already installed in them. I'm unfamiliar with how 2 subs work with one channel on an amp. I've heard they need to be bridged or something?

With the picture of my trunk, I was thinking maybe I could get an enclosure small enough to fit on the top deck right behind the rear seats. And because it's wide enough and I'm making enough of an investment, I would go ahead and fit a 2nd one right next to it. 5-channel amps usually have a ton of power anyhow.

As aforementioned, I assume I'll need the 5-channel amp for the new speakers.

I thought the capacitor would be necessary as my lights would go pretty dim when the bass would hit on the sub that I have now, and that's only 200 RMS @ 4 ohms.

Thanks for the feedback.

Did some homework so here's what I'm thinking:

Amp: Hifonics ZXi60.4 + 1K (60WRMS 4CH @ 4 Ohms, 475 WRMS x 1 CH @ 4 Ohms on the D Class Mono Channel).

Subs: Dual Rockford P2L's (Rated at 500RMS @ 4 Ohms by Amazon and 100-500RMS @ 4 Ohms by dealercostcaraudio.com).

Speakers: MB Quart PVI 216's (70WRMS @ 4 Ohms).

Headunit: No Idea. Jensen 6.5" maybe? However I'll really only use it for my iPod. Looks like this in a Jag.

Capacitor: Is this still necessary? Per the

, I'm not sure if this is necessary.
Thoughts?

Thanks again

Are you stuck on those subs? I'm not a huge fan. For that amount of power, SSA Dcons come to mind immediately. And for only 125$ brand new, hard to argue with. Look 'em up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

don't get the capacitor. also considering that you're gonna have BB do the install, good luck with that as they rarely ever do custom work much less install products not bought from the store. is there a reason you have to have 2 subs? a single sub in the proper ported enclosure will sound much better. don't get a jensen unit, their are so many other units that are around that price but so much better quality.

Capacitors are not liked around here. What you need to do is determine the amount of power used and efficiency of the amp. Then determine whether or not your alternator and battery can provide it with enough juice.

A better route than a cap would be a Kinetic Low ESR battery in the trunk. Works essentially the same way but holds a much larger reserve.

May or may not be necessary depending on your stock alternator rating and battery.

Not at all. I just need something to match with this Amp and the 5th channel is rated at 475WRMS @ 4 Ohms. I figured this would fit nicely as it's already enclosed and there's 2 of them. I'll take a look at the SSA Dcon's - thanks!

I'm still looking at a headunit, probably Pioneer. One that works really well with iPods, which is the sole purpose of getting a new headunit.

I'm still looking at a headunit and I stumbled upon the Pioneer AVIC-x910BT. Apparently it works really well with iPods, which is the sole purpose of getting a new headunit.
That amp also does 750 @ 2 ohms and 1000 @ 1 ohm. Depending on the subs coil(s) and how you wire them, it can do any of those 3 options.

I just figured that if I could fit them on the upper deck of my trunk right behind the rear seats, they would be worth it. No reason in particular.

A good friend of mine worked with firedog at circuit city for 3 years doing all this stuff although he lives 4+ hours away. He's the one who tested everything I've got now and found that an internal fuse blew on my amp. Before that, it was the sub that burned out. Apparently the 50-150w RMS sub and 200w RMS amp don't work well in conjuction. I want to upgrade the speakers in my car and I'll have plenty of $$ this summer so I figure I'll rebuild with a completely different system.
