The type-rs are VERY good subs for the money, and are VERY comparable to subs that cost more. Though, as usual, everything does depend on the install and the power level.

But for the money, the R is VERY hard to beat. Is it unbeatable? No. But it does hold it's own very well against other "better" subs.
