my g/f has a 99.5 jetta with stock system...i have a 97 max (without the bose) it came with a aftermarket Sony HU when i bought it, and i put in alpine type S speakers all around.

her sound system kicks my car's butt!!! WHY????

her's doesn't distort at all, mine does...

her's has better sound quality than mine as well.

i know they have component speakers (front and back i think) , but do they have an amp that i cannot locate or something. im soo ashamed...she always makes fun of me, because i spent 120 on the speakers, and it doesn't sound better than hers.

is there a cheap solution to fix this...??

VW speakers arnt that bad, with that in mind just throw an amp over 12rms per channel, which is probably what your deck is, ad you'll be fine. What speakers and how many are you running?

My friend ditched his Focal V2 setup for the stock tweeter, Kicker long throw 6.5" and a custom crossover.

It sounds awesome. Crisp, clean and it has vicious midbass that a 8" could only imagine. Remember, aftermarket speakers need more power than stock. And typically the stock HU is powermatched to the speakers.

Agreed.

Stock speakers are more sensitive and will get louder on less power. Thus you probably will hear more bass from the stock setup. Chances are the VW may have a small stock external amp. This would provide even better power than the hu. Either way, you need to amp your aftermarket speakers. Then you will see your system improve.

i agree with all of the above. i'm willing to wager that once you amp those speakers of yours, you can crank and still get the clarity that you do at low volumes.

the Profile CA440 should push those all nicely, and it's under 100 bucks.

guys thanks for your help. i guess that will be my first addition to my system, a speaker amp. Are the profiles pretty reliable? it might be $85 but i don't want to have to replace it every yea or so . then later an alpine headunit.
