Your car can function without a battery once its started. An old way to test if an alt is bad was to disconnect one of the battery terminals but in most new cars this isn't an affective method.

ok so if the alt is good i should be able to turn on my car and then disconnect the positive battery term and all should be fine? in theory of coarse

but if the resting voltage yesterday was 12.7 and now they are not getting charged would it not be because of the alt? Considering the stereo and all other equipment has been off?

Could have a draw in the system somewhere.

In theory yes you should be able to.

I wouldn't recommend that method of taking the terminal off to either of you because you have newer cars.

Oh well it kind of happened when I jumped the car anyway. Think I'm gonna charge the battery, put it back in, check all my connections. If still no luck, just take it in. just checked at the alt and i got 11.4 :/ gonna take out the red top i have under the hood and have it tested but im thinking the alt is giving out

Sorry to hear that bro. I went to put a higher output alt on and fucked everything up. Lifes not fair. Haha. Hope it works out and Ur alt is easy to change. Mine takes forever to do.

**** im sorry to hear that. i ooks like its a pain in the *** because it located near the bottom of the engine bay. luckly my buddy is a mechanic so he will most likely do it. just sux that i have to spend cash on a reg output alt because i cant wait for the HO one to arrive.

Yea mine is on the bottom. As long as my pcm isn't fucked, I think ill be ok, but I have no idea.

yeah if you are getting voltage like that from the alt then thats more than likely going to be your problem. when are you expecting your HO alt to get here?

unfortunately thats the problem i would not be able to place a order for the HO alt until tomorrow morn. so then i would have to wait for shipping and this is my only car. so ill have to buy a reg alt local to install over the weekend.
