Is this good enough for my Imagines???

You could just buy some used passive xovers and run them as components. As long as you dont run over rms or clip you should be fine with that amp.

You don't need a crossover, and you certainly don't need an active setup. Just use the speakers as they were designed to be used. The Imagines are excellent speakers just as they are. Check out the "white paper" explanation of why they don't have an external crossover...

I will be doing the same to mine soon, moving the tweeters. The only concern with that is I'm told the tweeters are loud if mounted on-axis. This is where going "active" can be a big help - you get to control the tweeter level separately. But it's not a requirement. I intend to handle it with an EQ (turn down the trebble //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif).

This says 3 way with 2 high pass and 1 low pass crossover, could this work with an "active" setup? like tweets in the first high pass, and mids in the 2nd? even though its full range?

x2

I've been running mine for a few months now, straight out the box in coaxial mode, and like them a lot. I've ran active for the past 6+ years and really enjoy these speakers. Since I'm running them in the doors, I'm actually LPing the speakers at 6db/oct at 8khz and keeping my tweeters in my a-pillar, running them at 12db/oct at 10khz, in order to bring the stage up to what I'm used to. So it's a sort of quasi-3way setup I have going at the moment, but I really started to like it after a few days of getting used to the new speakers. The tweets in the pillars don't really add much besides a little sparkle that brings the stage up.

First: Why buy nice speakers and then power them with a shit amp?
First: Nice way to bypass the profanity filter. I figured someone would make this exact type of comment, but I didn't think it would be directed at a well-respected brand.

Second: Clipping is not our enemy in the sense that clipping = instant damage. Too much clipping over an extended period of time is the enemy. If you're tuning for absolutely 0 clipping you're not getting the most out of your system. A lot of people actually prefer some audible distortion, but it's called "coloration" or "warmth".

Third: Passive crossovers are still going strong.
