Is this a good first setup / compatible and well complimented setup? (first system)

Look at the online manual for this deck on alpine.com, more like 18-21w RMS per channel, as with 99% of decks out there. You won't find a 45w per channel RMS deck under a grand. Still be a huge step up from what he's running, but don't give him false hopes:nerd:

EDIT: Found it straight from Specifications tab on this model- CEA-2006 Power Ratings

CEA-2006 Power Rating: 4 I? @14.4 V Ƈ%THD+N, S/N 80 dBA (ref.1 W into 4 I?), 18 W x 4

The power pack is 45rms not the deck. It plugs in between the deck and wiring harness and sits in your dash. I got one so I know
Oh yea, I really didn't pay much attention sorry. Those are legit. Lots of people are under the impression that a 50x4w deck means a 200w deck though, it really means 50-60w RMS and 200w at perfect condition peak. The only way to get decent wattage to the front stage is that power pack or a mids/highs amp

Do not get the power pack. I have an alpine cda-105, started with type r components in front and type r coaxials in back wired directly to head unit, sounded like @ss. Bought the power pack, got a little more volume but sounded like ***, you will not be happy. I got a 4 channel alpine PDX feeding my highs 100 watts rms, they sound super clean and scream trebble, I had to set my tweeters to -4db. Spend an extra 50 for a real4 channel amp, plus your mid on your component will need crossovered if u want it loud, they crossover that comes with them is set to low and it will distort before you get good volume from your component set, power pack doesn't give you this option

so i dont have to always ask if this or that headunit is any good, what do i look for in one? i mean sure bluetooth and satalite radio and so on is nice but are there certain levels of the inside components that i need to look out for? I asume the rms and so on doesnt matter since ill have amps for my speakers. or does it still matter? I dont need ipod or iphone compatability as i have a samsung smartphone, so i just need mp3 compatability or an SD card slot.

A good head unit will say one of these 3 things somewhere on the front, alpine Kenwood or pioneer. Look at each of the companies websites and find a model towards the upper half of there line up at least

Your comparing a $120 power pack to a PDX?

OP if you want loud get the Hifonics. But I'm telling you, you cant hide cheap power when your talking about your vocals and highs.

And I am very happy with my power pack considering the cost of the unit. It makes my HERTZ componets sound great!

sorry that didn't come across clear, I meant any decent 4 channel compared to the power pack, he can find one in the 150-200 range, or a used for less than the power pack. Was not saying he needed to spend 400+ for an amp like a PDX. Personally I wasnt happy with the power pack and if he wants loud volume from his highs he may not be happy with only giving 45 watts to 100 watt speakers, also your hertz probably handle midbass better than my type r comps, my drivers are more midrange and need crossed at 160 hz or they don't like getting loud

IMO.. If you max out the rms on comps they start to lose sound and start to "Scream" And IMO, 45RMS sets a nice blend. Save the money you would spend on a stand alone 4 channel, RCAs, wiring kit. And sound deaden the doors
