I'm not even going to attempt to quote within a quote, I have to leave for work in 5 minutes. But I will say that you just dug yourself a bigger grave. You will see why in a little bit here...You can ask any price you want, its up to the customer to decide if they're willing to pay for it. Even if they sold 20-30 units a year, they would be making more money than a company selling 3 times as many for $350 less. Plus they have less headaches and overhead (labor, warehousing)
If you're willing to wait for it. Some people don't want to wait and they'd rather buy something in person that sounds great to them.
Some people have money to spend and don't consider paying "too much" being *** *****. I've seen people pay $1500-2000 TOO MUCH for a custom computer, paint job, car repair, etc. I would have built a better computer, with a better warranty, for less money.
Than why post suggestions to subs that put out a lot more power than the original poster? Some subs sound a lot better than others that have specs that look great on paper.
I might have heard a DC, I really don't know. I've been to too many car shows and comp's to know. I know I haven't A/B'd one so I'm not going to suggest one way or another. I always tell people to let their ears decide. Ultimately brand, model, etc doesn't matter if it doesn't sound good to you. I have heard a lot of systems that people consider good SQ rigs, but I've done more with lesser known equipment. Its mostly in the tuning and enclosure design. An amplifier has more effect on sound than people think.
I lived in an area with at least 5-6 car audio shops in my area. I could get a custom designed box for around $120 out the door. Why waste my time paying some idiot on a forum when I can get better locally? Now there is only 1 car audio shop left where I live now. That's why I joined this forum. I'm also very involved in guitar and home theater setups.
Most of my customers have home audio systems that would make some of the best systems on these forums look like child's play. I'm not a millionaire yet, but some of my customers are. They have equipment I've never even heard of, from places like Italy, Germany and Japan. I don't go by brand names. I go by what sounds amazing. You would be surprised what a 1" thick birch cabinet can do for a set of $2000 drivers. I've only recently started getting active in the home entertainment market but most of my experience comes from car audio and home electronics.
Yeah, I'll take your word for it..... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nerd.gif.c6fa51ddf7ff75f1c0371fbc648f70ae.gif
I meant 1 1/2" Oak. And no, not a baffle.A cabinet. And if you think that sounds odd, don't even get me started on the cabinet I have that is 1.5" thick all around with a rear baffle sealed with 1" deep cement...Where did you source this magical 1.5" birch? Let me guess, the BAFFLE has two 3/4" sheets laminated together.....
I'm getting hot, where is my fresh grave? I need a place to lie down. I'm guessing it will be ready in about as much time as it takes one of the "custom" box builders to get done with their customer's boxes.
I bet he didn't see this coming, because I sure didn't. Cement is hardcore. I hope when I'm older I can have the money to really try and compete...and cement my doors. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gifI meant 1 1/2" Oak. Yeah...its not too far out there, man. I've only been into car audio for 2 years and home audio for half a year, and look how far I've come!I bet he didn't see this coming, because I sure didn't. Not sure where you get this opinion that "custom" box builders are slow or incompetent...? I'm sure that some are, and I've seen some work that is horrible and some that's great. But I can tell you that nearly all prefabs **** and local stereo shops usually aren't much better. I have seen work come from shops that people paid big money for and both the design and quality were very lacking. Very few shops know anything at all about SPL and can't help you get truly loud (just to cite an example).Where did you source this magical 1.5" birch? Let me guess, the BAFFLE has two 3/4" sheets laminated together.....

I just want to cement something. I have bags of it just sitting around not being used. And best of all, I have barely spent a penny on anything, no joke!
I am, see you there! Its all good guys. Honestly, I like giving people a hard time because usually everybody learns something. I don't like the threads that turn into a bunch of name calling and bashing, so I try to keep it a civil but heated debate //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif A few years back I read somewhere that someone was filling all the doors, walls, etc on an SUV with concrete? I did some searching but couldn't find it...?
I wasn't saying all the box builders were incompetent, etc. I've just seen some designs and construction on here that were very lacking and people were charging money for them. Its a sad day when you have to contract out a box builder instead of being able to go down to your local car audio shop and keep them in business. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
Suicide_Bobb, You coming to the comp in Lincoln City on the 19th? It would be cool to get as many people from the NW down here as possible.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wave.gif.002382ce7d7c19757ab945cc69819de1.gif
