Is the JL Audio ported HO box for the W6 as good as every one says it is?

If the shops are telling you that HO box is the best, it is likely because they do not really know how to properly design an enclosure for specific vehicles.

They can just sell the box and put no thought or design time into it.

Money not being a issue. If I can buy it all in one swoop I will, I just wanna know if that box is a perfect fit for that sub with a proper amp. Will it be a big difference if I get a box made to JL specs for the sub? Thanks to helpful comments

Honestly, if you have the money to burn and don't want to build your own box or pay for a custom box its not a bad way to go.

You certainly can't hurt the sub by running it in this box since its designed exactly as JL intended.

Personally I feel like JL subs are some of the best SQ subs so you can't go wrong in my book.

People spend up to $3500 for home audio subs so $700 really isn't that much. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

$700 for a HO box W6 is retarded.

For $700 this kid could buy a pair of extremely nice 12"s and have the best box builder on the forum design/build something extraordinary.

True. I'm not saying you couldn't do better for the money, that's for sure. Price isn't everything.
*sigh*

Price isn't everything? Then what is everything? You can get more of "everything" for less. If you literally want to just toss your money in the trash, then please, paypal it to me and I'll make better use of it.

Find the best box builder in town, and buy a fully loaded 12" FI Q from the website (that means check all the options). That is $284+shipping for the sub, and maybe $200 max for the box. It will sound a little bit better, but get much louder. And it looks cooler. And it's more reliable. And it can handle twice the power. And that's over $100 in your pocket to spend on bitches. Do you need more convincing? That was only the very first sub I thought of, by the way. There are many other choices.

OP its all personal preference .. Honestly , Mainstream is not "the thing " in these forums.. I myself have ran ID for almost 6 yrs now, and I do it for a reason.. I will say that my W7 I bought back in the day WITH the HO box, was a very good design and sounded great with a very smooth response, It still to me was not worth the $949 I paid for it.. And ALTHOUGH the HO box was nice, I just needed more.. So I made more...

Lots of truth there.

To further his point.

With $700 the OP could purchase a pair of 12" DC Lvl 3's, an Audioque AQ1200D and STILL have nearly $100 left to put towards his enclosure.

It goes MUCH deeper than that, dude. This has nothing to do with JL Audio being mainstream and everything to do with paying 3x a fair price for a decent subwoofer in a prefab enclosure.
Ummmm. You really should have fully quoted my coment then.. Obviously I agree

Been there done that with lvl 3s and a better amp than the AQ.. My w7 put up nearly the same #s @ lower frequencies..

its all personal preference..

OP the w6 is nice , but try looking at these

Ummmmm. How would the addition of "I myself have ran ID for almst 6 yrs now, and I do it for a reason..." have any impact on what I said?

a good point.. Seeing as how my $500 folded horn walks up and down a JL Fathom in every aspect from movies to gaming and music, it makes for a logical comparison
