Is the JL Audio ported HO box for the W6 as good as every one says it is?

Completely irrelevant.

Please explain how this has anything at all to do with personal preference.
your just looking for a pointless run around argument , And Im to tired for that shit..

Bottom line Is I gave the OP a heads up on whats good and bad about his choice and tossed in a Rl-p as a good alternative.. Because NO, a dc lvl 3 is gonna sound nothing like a w6.. Have you even owned ANY of the subs mentioned in this thread?

*sigh*
Price isn't everything? Then what is everything? You can get more of "everything" for less. If you literally want to just toss your money in the trash, then please, paypal it to me and I'll make better use of it.

Find the best box builder in town, and buy a fully loaded 12" FI Q from the website (that means check all the options). That is $284+shipping for the sub, and maybe $200 max for the box. It will sound a little bit better, but get much louder. And it looks cooler. And it's more reliable. And it can handle twice the power. And that's over $100 in your pocket to spend on bitches. Do you need more convincing? That was only the very first sub I thought of, by the way. There are many other choices.
Lol haha I was just lookin at the 12" Fi Q. In a ported box built to Fi's specs how much SQ will I lose in a sealed box built to Fi's specs?

Thanks for all the help guys.

Holy shit dude.. what was your point again then?
I have seen you post a lot around here, man. From my recollection you're at least moderately intelligent. What I said was pretty straight forward and easily understandable, so why are you having trouble grasping the concept.

I implied that paying $700 for a $300 sub and ported enclosure is ridiculously expensive. I furthered my point by listing a pair of decent 12" subwoofers and an amplifier that's known to be of at least decent quality that could be had for nearly $100 less than the $300 JL Audio subwoofer and ported enclosure.

You up to speed now?

Oh and dont jump on the hate wagon just yet dude.. The JL HO enclosures are hardly just another mass market "prefab enclosure"........
I don't hate JL Audio. In fact, I recently purchased a slash series amplifier.

I never said the Level 3's would sound anything like a W6. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif However, they do sound pretty good, and having a pair of them AND an amplifier for less than the price of the W6 would be considered favorable to about 99% of the population of this forum.

How does owning these subs help or hinder the argument? If you must know, no, I haven't owned a W6 or Lvl 3. I have heard MANY W6's, though. I've installed several Lvl 3's for various friends/clients too...

I agree that 700 for that is a complete rip off.

On the other hand, Im sure that JL can design a good box for the subs THEY make. Saying you could get more for less is irrelevant. Id rather see people people trying to explain WHY the JL HO box sucks rather than just saying "you could get more for less"..

Like I said man, I agreed with everything you said, and even said I went from being a JL fanboy to running something that is just as good for alot less $$, but some ppl just like what they like, no matter what the cost..

I think both the rl-p and Q are much better options for what hes looking for in comparison being as how they are really leaning to the SQ SQL side of things..

But Yea ,16 hr work day , Im tired, not with it, goin to bed,, Who knows I might read this myself tomorrow and say , WTF was I talking about..?? But it made sense when I was writing it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

The HO box probably doesn't ****. The question here is whether it's worth $400, because a bnib 12" W6 can be had for around $300.

I'm no expert on the subject, because I've never paid someone to build me a box, but I'd be fairly confident in saying a seasoned enclosure designer/builder could do something absolutely ridiculous for less than $400.

Its not hard to be the size of a company like JL, do a little math, punch it into their CNC machine and come out with a great box and design. So of course they are gonna have very flat good sounding HO enclosures for all, what? 5 or 6 subs that use that box? I dont think anyone who knows anything about JL ever said theyy or their enclosures ****, they're overpriced

See misfit.. I think I got it now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Is this absolutely ridiculous ? This cost me $90 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
