Is port firing direction important?

it all depends on the car and the acoustics of said vehicle, also the space between the different areas of the box and the car, also what type of vehicle, suv, trunk, hatch, so on and so forth.

if ya really want an answer we need more info.

I have a 1990 toyota camry. The box would be in the trunk, sub facing the rear. What i was thinking of doing was possibly running the port from the back of the enclosure through the back seat into the cab. Really the only point of this would be for it to be kind of cool. I was just unsure if this would be as effective as facing the port in the same direction the speaker was facing.
