Is my wiring ok?

I burnt out my switched 12v wire awhile back because of a faulty Ipod cord that shorted for my Pioneer h/u, and took my 12v switched wire with it. No popped fuses, or relays, I've checked 4 times, checked the h/u fuse, it's fine. So it has to be the wire. The way my Cavy is wired, the stock harness needs a module plugged in for aftermarket h/u's, which I have, and the 12v switched, constant 12v, and ground are seperately wired somewhere within the depths of my dash. I can't and wont take it apart, so what I've done is pulled a switch from an old welding machine, used a 14g wire from my distro block to the switch, and from the switch to my remote on my amp. Is this ok to run for an extended amount of time? My dealership said they'd need a special tech to come in and work on it, and that's too much money. Any input?

Cliffs: Burnt switched 12v wire, im running a switch to turn on my amp, is it ok for an extended amount of time.

you mean the remote turn on lead off of the head unit, or the switched B+ lead from module to the head unit?

you seem to have a decent amount of knowledge, I dont think you will need the help of their special tech

Yes the remote lead basically. But my headunit has an on/off button so I don't have to worry about the h/u, but I wired the h/u's switched/constant to the car's constant12v. The amp is whats using the switch.

Yeah I figured the switch idea may work, but the dealership guy had no idead and really couldn't help.

But I have another question. Before the switched12v burned out, when I would set my gain with the DMM I never had problems, but after it burned out, the DMM gets wierd readings, I'll have to try it again tomorrow, but I just wanted to know if my switch is causing the wierd readings.
