is my amp performing up to its potential?

i just installed a 1000/v2 JL audio 1000w monoblock with a 13W7 but it doesnt seem to be that great?!?!?! i thought these were award wining subs. but i did not do any upgrades such as big 3 and so on. could my amp + sub sound louder, be more powerful just from a big 3 conversion? anyone with before and after results please let me know if it helps in that sense. thanks

Its sad that people go ahead and buy JL, get sucked in by the local shops, and then come here AFTER to try to peice together there mistakes.

And I guess to keep on topic. Your car should handle 1000 watts just fine without big 3, are you using 0 gauge wire? If not then id definatly upgrade. My truck has a 130a stock alt and held 1000 watt system with all 0 gauge wiring and big 3 NOT done, never dropped below 12 volts..at full tilt it would go to low 12s. But then again, even if your dropping and losing say..200 watts, it wont magically get louder from those extra 200 watts.

...You thought jl was "award winning subs" apparently, means you thought they were some hot shit, and they didnt live up to your expectations. Did you get a prefab box aswell? Browse thru the forums for a few hours alot of great info to be had. Might have to weave through the BS tho.

That amp is gonna put out about 1000rms from 11v-14.4v, so doing the big 3 will not make anything louder..

What kind of box do you have...thats about the only option you have with that setup...

Looks to me as if OP drives a Beemer. Hatch or trunk? If trunk, back seats up or down? BMW has very good insulation for the trunk, and that may be part of the problem.
