Is it safe to max out the amp gain?

i put mine at 75%, never had any problems

only for the subs of course since i cant notice distortion as well

The position of the gain control in and of itself has no relation to the amount of power coming from the amp. For example with no signal, a maxed gain would still be no power. With most amps, anything over 250mV of input is enough to get full power with the gain maxed. If the input is greater than that, maxing the gain means that the amp is clipping.

I have never turned any of my amps past 75 percent, mostly around 50 percent

I haven't ever turned my amp past 55-60% gains. I think right now my amp is sitting at 50%. The AQ remote bass knob tells me it's even clipping (a very very little) at the highest volumes I go. That's how I know I'm alright with the gain setting.

And once again, the relative position where your gain dial is set means exactly squat.

i turn digital amps all the way up.... digital amps seem to behave differently.

it is safe to push 500 watts from a 500 watt amp

it is also safe to give a 500 wrms woofer 500 watts

i have never gone over 40 percent on my mmats amp i have it around 30 percent.

I have never dealt with AQ amps but they show when your clipping on the bass knob? If so thats cool and I may have to look into their amps.
