Is it really OK to use comps up front only?

Vehicle interior size and shape is a big factor in the necessity of rear fill. Front stage speaker installation/placement is also a factor. A well placed pair of speakers should be able to immerse the listener into the sound stage.

True 'rear fill' is not only attenuated, but also bandpassed. Most h/u's cant do that thru their internal amp.

this x2.

i personally havent used rear fill in many years without looking back. If you do a good enough job on the front stage you'll barely notice and/or probably not care it's gone. I've also read alot that HU power for some coaxials i the back is a common and usually decent soundign route. if you frequently have backseat passengers then it's nice for them, but not always nessessary.

audioholic, can you go into moer detail about the need for bandpass in the rear fill? i'm curious about this.
