I just put a sub in my Benz. only did it because it was very cheap, nearly free. amp is an Audiopipe GD-1501, sub is a 12 inch Lanzar max pro, wired in parallel down to 2 ohms. amp should be giving it around 300 watts. heres my problem.....the only way I can get the sub to be loud at all is to crank my JVC deck up about 80% of the way and turn the bass up on the deck, with the gain all the way up on the amp. problem is....now my car speakers are getting way too much bass and sounding terrible (they were pretty much blown already, so when you turn the bass up at all, they rattle and sound terrible). how should I handle this? take the sub back and get something else? keep the sub and get another amp with a lot more power since this sub is rated at over 1000 watts? get rid of both and stop being cheap (don't answer that, lol)? or even if I get another sub and more powerful amp, will I still need to turn the bass up on the deck so far that the speakers sound terrible (barely halfway and they sound bad). not sure. but thanks for the help

You get what you pay for. Don't run blown speakers for 1 makes the system sound like crap to begin with. Lanzers crap imho so get something decent subs aren't very expensive. 600 watts should be ok for an entry level single sub. I run 500 rms thru two JH45 MTX 12's. Anything approaching 80% on the HU is most likely going to cause distortion especially on a stock HU. That's my 2 cents anyway good luck hope you get something you like. Fry's has sales on the Polk DB 2 12" box every few months for $150 would be a great entry level box for you and 600 rms would run it ok.
