Is it hard to install alarm systems?

Long story short, i got an alarm installed in my explorer, and the CHEAPEST place within about 40 miles charged me a total of $300 for an alarm installed. Thats $120 for the alarm and $180 for installation.

I'll be buying a new vehicle here shortly, and instead of getting an alarm installed, i figured i would just buy a better alarm system and try to do it myself.

so, the question is, should i try to do it myself? I feel fairly educated about doing car audio, but im not sure about an alarm system heh.

Get a Bulldog Alarm they are for do it yourselfers and give you plain and simple instructions,,,,if you can hook up a car stereo then you should have no trouble with an alarm...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

basic alarms are easy. pager alarms are a little tougher. add glass break sensors, pain generators etc., it gets harder.

if i do it myself, i'de prolly get a pretty decent alarm with the bells and whistles.

i'll have to look up those guides i guess heh

it is hard.. but non the less doable..

hard part is finding the right wires to splice in to.

lots of wrong wires to cut lol.

well it all depends on what type of car you get. my thunderbird was easy, a dodge caravan is a pain. so name the types of cars you want and we can look at the wiring diagram and let you know. and DONT GET A BULLDOG system! go dei.

I've installed several remote starts they are pretty simple also...If you go DEI get the DEI 745t alarm or the DEI 564t remote start both have 2 way paging capabilities

those arent that bad of a truck you will have to use a data interface which will do most of your alarm functions. the hornet 564t is a nice lil unit i just put one in my buddies dodge ram a few weeks ago.

Those arent that bad to install an alarm on. just make sure if you have the option to remote open your hatch. just make sure it unlocks it. and locks it. I have a trailblazer and i but a rsx 3.5 on it. that is a 2003. i had a 2004 come in the shop i worked at and it was totally different. so good luck if you need any help let me know
