Is FatMat any good?

yeah the door kit is only 44 dollars so if I use that for my two front doors I can use the rammat for my trunk and rear deck

For those of you who are doing extreme dampening installs (more than 1 layer in most places): IMHO, it would be pretty cost effective without sacrificing much if any dampening efficiency to use a base layer of the good stuff (damplifier pro, etc...) and use raamat for any additional layers.
I think an even better solution - if you want to go all out, is a layer of mat covered by an equal thickness of good quality liquid deadener. The two work well together since they have different elasticities. Especially on complex shapes, like the floor of a trunk, the mat seems to deaden individual panels and the liquid locks it all together to form one solid unit.

so the door pack that they say can do two doors probably will only do one right? lol screw them
I guess it all depends on the size of the door and how much you put on...but yea I doubt the door pack would actually do two doors if they say the bulk pack will do a whole car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

That is a good idea. Unfortunately since you would have to layer it in that order, it would be a giant pita if you every had to take any out...lol

True that - any of this stuff presents that potential problem so it's a really good idea to plan ahead //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Meh, Rudy you seem like your pretty knowledgable guy about Deadening, but I have yet to have a problem with my fatmat and if I do, I guess I will learn the hard way, but I will be doing my doors as I have went verticle in a few spots already, which happened to be my biggest rattles and what not. Stopped them completely.

now I still get rattles in my back area...........where the Second skin is.........to be fair, that is taking a good bit of punishment though.

I like both products and to save money will go with Fatmat or Peel and seal.

If I ever have money enough to warrant, then I will hit up SS or Cascade, which I have heard stellar reviews on.

What is peel and seal?

I am still thinking about doing some of my floor with fatmat simply cause I cant afford to do it with rammat and I think it would be better then nothing

I bought a roll of rammat for my trunk and hopefully some of my front doors

youd be better off with nothing :/

save your money please, and at least get the raamat. only reason i dont like raamat is its too sticky and gooey IMO.

peel and seal is basically just an asphalt based adhesive with an aluminum facing. It will work but like rudy has said it is susceptible to heat, if you follow the link in his sig you can see the test he did and show how little heat it takes to fail. So on a floor is not too big of a problem, however any non flat surface your looking at trouble

If you can afford second skin it is the product to go with hands down, while it is more expensive you must also remember that to get the same results of second skin your going to need multiple layers of a cheaper deadener. So if you think about it your not saving money all your doing is causing yourself more work.

I know many people compare secondskin with raamatt and dynamat. While taking nothing away from raamatt, i personally feel it is not even fair to compare with second skin, i recently used a roll of it and while it did work and was just about as easy to use it is not nearly as think as even regular damplifier, there i found myself using multiple layer to acheieve the same results as places i only used on of damplifier.

Now dynamatt i would say is very similar to regular damplifier, they both perform very well and would consider them very similar products, but when were talking about damplifier pro there is no comparison.

What really seals the deal for me is this, second skins customer service is second to none, i have never and i mean never had a company as willing to help its customers as second skin. Ant is a great guy and will answer any questions you have. For example i emailed Ant about a week ago asking him about the shelf life on his spectrum product that i have had sitting around for about a year, he responded saying that the product was still good but an older formula that was not as good as the current spectrum, so he then asked for my mailing address so he could send me a quart of formula to mix into the 2 gallons i had that basically made my old spectrum equalivent to the current selling product.

He did this without me asking or anything, all i did was ask about the shelf life and he took it a step further and sent me this free or charge with free shipping. That right there is customer service, after that i will never buy another deadener.

So basically my philosophy on deadening is this, do it right the first time. Dont buy an inferior product because the results will be inferior as well, save some money and spend it on a product that outperforms every other product on the net and i can promise you that you will not be disappointed.

FatMat is the same thing as FatMat - it just doesn't have the logo stenciled on. It is intended to do roof repair for mobile homes. It is available from roofing supply stores and Lowe's.

I still maintain that FatMat and Peel & Seal represent a false economy. If you planned to buy $100 worth of Peel & Seal, buy $100 worth of a decent butyl product instead. You will get substantially fewer square feet, but if you spread it out, it will do just as good of a job, be less work and be completely reliable. The odds of P&S failing on your floor are lower than most other places in a car, but if it does fail, you run the risk of having asphalt ooze up into your carpet. Since it doesn't get you any more performance for the money, why risk it.

Well I have a roll of rammat on the way which is 60 sq feet how far do you think that will get me? I am doing the trunk first and I really want to do the two front doors as well. Think 60 sq feet will be enough?
