is an 200amp alternator really neccesary?

i was browsing http://www.excessiveamperage.com and seen alts they sell come in 200-350amps:crazy:

the lowest ive seen on his site are just the 200amp alts, but is it really neccesary for me to go with an 200amp alt when my vehicle will only be a daily driver with 1.5k-2 rms watts? i would think an simple 150amp alt will be fine for me and definately a major upgrade from my 70a factory alt. and would an 150amp be cheaper than a 200amp alt?

im only running a hifonics brutus bx1000d on the 70a, but eventually upgrade as time goes by. so im trying to do the right things first by making an alt the priority investment, than a battery.

Question:

Are you experiencing any dimming or anything else that has made you want to get a HO alt?

but i did not say anything about his alt, just need a good electrical system.
yea...sorry //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blush.gif.99bc659ee2012b7d826165e26fb5eebe.gif but u did mention an upgraded alt is a must //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

Why upgrade if you aren't having any problems?

I have a system pushing ~1600 watts and I was getting dimming on my stock group 51 (smallass) battery and 70a alt. I was sure I needed an HO alt to fix it. I did buy an Exide 34XCD in place of my stock battery, and lo and behold, no more dimming. Now I am not even considerign buying an alt anymore. So while it would definitely be help and maybe be a good idea, it's not necessarily necessary.

yeah, it may not be neccesary... but definetly should be done eventually... That could put a lot of strain on your electrical system.... And for you, I don't know where the thread is but there was a thread to show what size alt you should have for as many watts that your system is running... I tried searching and can't find it... maybe someone who knows could post it in here for you... that might help. 150amp alt sounds alright tho... but 200 would be even safer... I guess it's budget dependent for you man.

Well I am getting the dimming lights as well and I am about a little over 1300 watts rms with all my amps. I am going to be purchasing the ohio generator 200 amp to help out. I think I should have done the electrical aspect of my system first. Oh well baby steps I say lol! Good luck. Also if you do get that 200a altenator at excessive amperage, could you let me know how much you pay? I want to compare some prices. Thanx

ive done the first 2 parts of the big-3 (engine to chassis, neg to chassis)

and i would only get dimming on the loud/hard bass hits...its not enough to affect my driving visability, but enough to notice if you were staring at my lights from a view.

Why not upgrade BEFORE you have any problems....? Think about that one
uh cuz some people dont have money to waste on stuff they might not even need //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
