Is a fuse between alternator and battery positive neccessary while doing Big 3?

I just ordered enough 1/0 gauge to do the Big 3, but didn't order a fuse holder..

Was wondering if it was neccessary to add a fuse to the alternator to battery positive wire?

i would...

when i had my HO alt put in, the guy that put it in put my big 3 wires on the serpentine belt, and the pos wire was grounding out after a while. a fuse is always a good idea unless you want to collect fire insurance

Always a good idea, but if you can route it were it won't touch ANY metal if it comes loose, etc... then you don't need one.

If you're good with installation it's not. Mine isn't fused.

the only thing i can think of from that is what happens if you get into a front end collision, doors buckle and cant be opened, and that wire has now been pushed into any sort of metal in the engine bay. car catches on fire, and theres no way out

just a worst case scenario here,

personally i would fuse it, your not really bottle necking too much with 1/0 wire and a 200- 250 ish amp fuse in it

If you get into a bad enough crash the + wire from the bat can rip out of the fuse holder and ground out to the chasis. You're really screwed either way, imo.

just seems safer imo to fuse it either way, anl's can be had for a decent price anyway

Mines not and wasnt on my last car....been fine

Just dont put it over anything running or spinning....like Lakota said if its done right than its not necessary
