ty. Any idea how that #1 stuff that some welding wire is, I bought some about 5 years ago, and it was smaller than 1/0 I don't remember exactly how it worked though.

From what I've found the welding wire is always a bit smaller then the car audio equivalent. For example welding 1 is a bit smaller then say Knu 1/0. And most 1/0 ring terminals will fit welding 2 just fine. Kinda funny how that works since I thought there was a certain standard in order for it to be called a certain gauge. Well, actually I'm sure it's just a size range, and as long as it falls in that range it's kosher.

Ive seen stuff labeled like 14awg/2conductor , but never 14/2 as a known standard.

Yea, I was trying to buy some 1/0 from my local joint and they showed me that stuff. it was tiny compared to the 1/0 I got from weldingsupply.com

1/0 is a size rating of wire

14/2 is a description of a cable containing two 14awg sections that are separately insulated

Yea, one major problem with non universal naming standards. Always read the description to make sure your getting what you think you are getting.

I've seen 4 conducter wire that was the size of 1/0. not sure how they named it though.

AWG stands for American Wire Gauge which is a national standard for thickness or wire...

it goes from conductor size 22 to 2000kcmil....

the sizes most car audio installers will see is:

12g

that is listed in smallest to largest...

there is not such thing as "0 gauge" wire... it is either 1 or 1/0.
