inverting subs?

sorry to thread jack, but not all subs can be inverted, can they?
Im not positive but I dont see why not? Just flip the polarity and bam.

edited: flip polarity IF you are running multiple subs...I forgot to add that last night..I did that with my (3) GTO804's..middle one was inverted

switching the polarity on a single inverted sub setup depends alot on your system

for some it works, for others it does not.

(perhaps my front stage was out of phase?)

Squeak will probably chime in with his thoughts....

I don't know if certain subs are actually physically not capable of being inverted (for suspention reasons, etc.) but i tried inverting a rockford p3, and i had a really hard time getting it to seal inverted, just because of the design.

I lost a lot of output, but it def. had more to do with the lack of a seal than anything else.

some woofers have different mounting options as to be able to mount either way and some others are impossible to invert. the new fosgate subs have that funky mounting ring that is in the way and isnt reversible. but most woofers are capable of being mounted inverted.

but if I put my W7 inverted theres no way it would hold up. The magnet weighs almost 50 pounds
Then how come it holds up when when its mounted regular //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

weight of the woofer has nothing to do with it being able to mount inverted. it would actualy put less stress on the basket inverted because there wouldnt be a motor pulling down on the basket, but that is not an issue with the w7. i also know it wouldnt mount inverted. unless im missing something:rolleyes:

on a single woofer setup i dont believe you have to switch polarity if inverted. with a multiple woofer setup you would change polarity on the inverted one so there isnt cancalation.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

i was wondering if a w7 could be inverted because it has that weird mounting ring...but i knew if it couldnt it had nothing to do with the size of the mag //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

You can attach the W7 to a ring that will act as a flange allowing an inverted mount, this could also be used with any other sub with a funky mounting setup.
