doesnt wiring the sub in different phase shift its timing and has nothing to do with which way it begins moving? or does it shift the way its moves and has nothing to do with timing?
It changes the way it moves and has nothing to do with timing. It has to do with relative phase.
Now, where you might be getting confused is that adjusting the phase can have approximately the same
affect on the sound as changing the timing (such as using time alignment) in that it may help center up the imaging, blend better with the rest of the system, etc. But the two are
not the same.
With reversing the phase, you are adjusting when the subwoofer moves in and out in relation to the signal (this is
absolute phase). This, in turn, will affect the subwoofer's acoustic phasing with the rest of the system (this is
relative phase).
With time alignment, you are physically delaying when the sub (or speakers) responds compared to the rest of the speakers in the system (i.e. it might be delayed by 1ms). But the absolute phase, when it moves in and out in relation to the signal, does not change.
