Inverting A Sub

Hi,

Does it make much difference to the output of a sub if it is inverted? It will be in a ported box. Coz due to having no space to mout it im thinking about just doing a fibreglass box and inverting it.

it will make no difference in sound you just wont have to worry about sub displacement

inverting doesn't affect sound/output.

but what i don't understand, is if you don't have enough space to mount it in, then how would that change inverting it?

if you need 2cubic feet of box space with a regular mount, you'd need 2cubic feet of box space minus the displacement of the sub, but then the sub will still be taking up the same ammount of space outside the box?

it seems to me like it would take up more space inverted than not.

sometimes you cannt get the depth to munt the sub but you have plenty of width/height

Im my case it is JUST about wide enough for the sub with space for depth and height. The external width of the box must be 280mm max and the cut out hole has to be 24.77cm which when you make the box out of 18mm mdf leaves u a total of .3mm under the size. .3mm under the size.

was meant to be .3cm. This might jus be enough room for the sub tho coz after calculating it again i might get away with it.

you have to have clearance behind the sub too though. Best bet is if possible, making another front baffle
