Internship questions?

ok so im over at carsound and i read this ad for an internship at a pretty high profile shop in cleveland. all it said was that there was an internship and to email him if interested. they are affiliated with a porsche and mercedes dealer here in cleveland and they work on alot of browns players cars and did lebrons bentley.

so i did. i asked him what qualifications they were looking for in an intern. all basically were just character type stuff, clean background, drivers license, workmanship etc. but then he listed what he expects of his employee and it was very extensive training obviously.

i responded with an email telling him that i do fit all the criteria as the intern but that i had next to no experience but a willingness to learn and that i would consider it a great career. he responded with setting up an appointment for me to stop by the shop and meet with him and his bosses.

now i know i shouldnt get my hopes up or anything but what do you think i can expect from this meeting? i mean if they are taking the time to talk to me then obviously there is a possibility of something good coming from it but i dont know...has anyone else been in a similar situation?

Yes, I got the job.

Just be yourself and let them see that you're willing to learn. It doesn't matter much if you don't know what's going on right now.

If you're serious about making it a career, go for it and try your best to impress them. If you just think it might be fun, don't waste your and their time.

yeah i definately wouldnt waste their time. if something could come from it what a place to start! i mean the fact that he would even be interested in someone that like i said ive only installed a couple of stereos in the cars ive owned, and i clearly stated that to him.

to me it seems to good to be true but you never know i guess. im unemployed at the moment and contemplating what i want to go back to school for and have no idea other than to get a business degree. so definitely wouldnt be a waste of my time. ive got nothing but time ha ha

I'm 20 years old, graduated high school, and was kicked out of college in the middle of my second year due to bad grades. I was going for a computer science degree, but failed english twice, math twice, computer science twice, and I dropped out of philosophy. I'm not even sure I completed enough credit hours to be considered a sophomore. Basically I screwed up bad, I have no excuse, it is completely my fault. I can say I lost motivation due to some difficult times with my family and other aspects of my personal life, but basically, I'm in control or myself (or not) and I messed up. I had been working at a grocery store for 3 years, and was only making $7.50 per hour, and hardly able to get in 30 hours a week. I gained a ton of weight, I hated my job, I was pissed at myself for screwing up my education...you can just imagine it wasn't the best of times.

I honestly don't remember where, but I met a guy who told me about how badly he needed help at work. He was a programmer for a company called Carson services that is headquarters for some very large international websites, and he was the one and only programmer for the last 9 years or so. He told me they were looking to hire one programmer to help out. Even though they were looking for a college graduate with thorough knowledge of every programming language under the sun and practical work experience, he convinced me to turn in a resume. Well about a month after turning in my very sparse single sheet of printer paper I passed off as a resume, I got a call from them saying they wanted to schedule an interview. I was honest and I told them that I had a limited amount of knowledge of Java programming that I attained in my short time at the University, and that was my only formal training. None of which pertained directly to the web application style of programming they were looking for, and to top it off I had no experience in the field, my first and only job to that point was at the grocery store. I told them I was willing and able to learn anything they through at me, and I hoped for the best. Another month went by and I had pretty much given up on the idea of getting the job when they called me to tell me that I didn't get the job. They hired some guy the day after I interviewed with all kinds of experience and who was willing to work for next to nothing. They then told me that the day before they had fired him and I was on the top of the list. They agreed to give me a trial run. I was put on wage (everybody else is salary) at $12/hr and expected to learn. I am in week 3 of training and am very well versed in Java, Javascript, MySQL databasing, PHP, AJAX, and of course HTML/CSS/XML. In my first week I was able to code a sample web application using Java and the struts framework capable of communicating through a MySQL database, adding, updating, sorting, and deleting data, with a secure login script. They were very impressed and honestly they didn't plan on me learning that much in my first month, much less a week. I came in the next day and the boss literally threw a book at me titled "PHP Bible" and said learn PHP and have your Java application running in PHP by the end of the week. After doing this I was told that they will slowly start introducing me into the real coding they do on actual websites, and if I can hold my own like I am now, I can expect salary somewhere in the range of $50k+

And to top it all off, a couple weeks in, in the middle of my work day I get a call on my cell phone from the owner of a local car stereo shop that I had applied at probably 7 or 8 months ago for as an installer. I had an MECP basic installer certificate, but again, no real work experience, and they offered me a job over the phone which I had to turn down.

I say go for it!

what would you do if they gave you 5 relays & wanted a pulse timed relay & make a light flash 3x then stay on?

ha ha dont know yet.... maybe google it or pm you lol i already made it clear in my emails to him i had no real experience, nor training. that my experience was limited to a 93 thunderbird, 01 and 05 honda civic, 02 explorer ha ha

but i have an eagerness to learn. that is exactly what i told him and he still asked me to come by tomorrow and meet with him.... so i guess well see.

honestly your situation pretty much matches me to a T ha ha dropped out of school, got a job, got fat, and am rethinking my life....sweet thanks for the pick me up.

I've also put 210 miles on my bicycle in those three weeks and started a diet. Going good so far, haven't lost a huge amount of weight, but I feel 2983398 times more healthy and energetic. It feels good waking up early and going to work like a normal person lol speaking of which I gotta go to bed...i'm out!

i read every word, looking for any bit of hope i can latch onto. i honestly thought when i told him i had no experience that hed say thanks but no thanks. i mean even circuit city told me to take a hike a couple years ago when i applied there to install!!! ha ha

i mean i know even if i get the internship ill start out as just a shop *****, ha ha but from what he said they are looking for someone they can turn into an installer that they can employ for a long time. he even specified that if you werent looking to turn it into your career not to even apply.

ive got a cousin that went to technical school to be a mechanic and got a job at a local place that mainly does work on bmw, audi, mercedes etc and they took him from being a 19 year old mechanic to sending him to and paying for bmw tech, and hes attending a mercedes workshop as we speak... maybe thisll end up the same deal.

not getting my hopes up or anything but hell who knows

yeah, the factory ive been wroking at the last 2 years recently closed down because they are moving operations to canada so ive been sitting here about 2 months collecting unemployment waiting for TAA(program where gov will pay you to go to college since you lost your job to foreign trade) to come through.

it does kinda **** not having anywhere to be on a day to day basis. its cool for like 2 weeks, then it gets old ha ha.
