We have been doing the cooler set-up for years. We go down to this party town New Braunfels, about an hour away from Austin and float down the river getting drunk with our cooler / jam box in a inner tube roped off to us and we jam down the Guadalupe River. One big massive floating party. I'm sure the people from Texas on here have partied on the Guadalupe River atleast once. It is Muffapaloosa, snatch and ******* everywhere. ****, know I'm ready to go. Later....

We just had a HU and some 6x9s with a deep cycle marine battery and it would last for a good 6 hour trip down the river.

What did you do about charging the battery on the cooler, or would you just buy a new one? *no idea what a marine battery costs, so excuse me if that's a dumb question

a deepcycle battery's designed to be used just like a rechargeable battery, more or less, so you charge it with a standard trickle-charge 2-5A battery charger, use it for the day, and then charge it back up for next time

you have to be somewhat punctual about getting it charged back up, tho, cause even a deep-cycle will cease to exist if the charge gets much below 10v or so....

Mine with an old deep cycle battery out of my boat lasts pretty much all day (about 8 hours on average) powering the headunit, and sometimes a cell phone or ipod charger (I threw in a few outlets too). When the day is done I just open the cover and hook up the charger.
