I installed my viper 350HV yesterday. I found it very easy and after 4 hours had all the main wires hooked up and the alarm working. Aftrer another 3 hours I did the LED, valet switch, cleaned all the wires up and put stuff back, and programed it. Very easy.

I bought the alarm from a friend who bough it at best buy and his parent's took his truck from him so he sold me the alarm for very cheap. I recomend installing your alarm yourself, it's alot easier than most people think.

Sweet....so you're only out what you paid your friend for the system then?? No labor fees, no worries if it was done right or not ( I know I wouldn't trust a CC or BB to install MY alarm).

My first alarm was installed by "professionals". I think my next will be installed by me. You're right - I think it's not as complicated as some people would have you to believe.

i wouldn't trust some cc or bb to install them... at some locations people DO know what they're doing... i do about 95% of the alarm installs at my location... the only ones i dont' do are the ones when i'm not there and they can't convince the customer to come when i'm there...

but back to the topic congrats on the alarm install... now you can keep doing easy cars and making some side money :-D

congrats. So do alarms usually come with instal instructions? How much more complicated would it be too instal a remote start/alarm?

yes... alarms come with instructions... they tell you which wires are which... now to find the ones in the vehicle you need a wiring diagram and a DMM... or if your good then just a DMM... and complexity always depends on the vehicle & the alarm getting installed...

how complicated would a 99 s-10 w/ factory "security" system be?

not very hard... 99? does that have the visible chip in the silver part of the key? or does it have a big black key head? or does it no have a chip at all? that would be the only hard part of the alarm... chevy's are usually fairly easy

can you get a copy of your key made for cheap? like at walmart? or does it cost more because it has a chip in it? some of them with the small rubber key head don't need the bypass... and if you lock the car with the factory remote... then open the door from the inside does the horn start honking? if not then you don't have factory alarm.. .either way it's still an easy install.. depending on your level of experience... but it's not really hard

If you can get a good wiring diagram, it can be done, but I don't know much about the computer chips in the key thing.

Whats wrong with the factory alarm? It's going to be just as good as any aftermarket alarm IMO.
