Ok, so I just got through doing my install of the Phoenix Gold rsd-65cs components. (which are 4ohm) Left the crossovers set at the 0db switch. (other choice is +2db)

(none of this Db stuff makes any sense to me)..im a noob.

Anyways I layered the outer skin of my doors with one layer of sound deadening material (didnt want to do more for weight issues, but wanted just a hair of deaden)

I unplugged my rear stock speakers and just going to run the components. (maybe a sub later down the road).

I am using a Pioneer Premier DEH-P640 for the HU

I am powering this set of of a Concept 2 channel CC-1252 amp

Here are its specs:

4 Ohm Stereo Power (RMS): 125W X 2

4 Ohm Mono Power (RMS): 400W X 1

2 Ohm Stereo Power (RMS): 200W X 2

Signal-to-noise ratio: 100 dB

Frequency Response: 5 Hz - 50 KHz

Total Harmonic Distortion: 0.05%

Input Sensitivity: 200mV-4V

Length: 11.82"

Width: 11.66"

Height: 2.37"

Continuously variable 0 - 18dB Bass Boost

Built-in continuously variable 18dB per octave crossover, from 50Hz to 250Hz

Platinum Connectors

Ok, so basically here is what i have so far. I turned all headunit settings to default and or off, and all settings on the amp down to the minimum.

They are just wired each set to each channel regular (so i guess the 125wx2 at 4Ohms)

I set the crossover switch on the amp for the "Full" instead of using the amp low pass filter or high pass. (i read that is Full is what you should use when using components)

I turned the radio up to 3/4 the way the head unit would go (like 45 out of 60 something)

and then turned my gain up about half way on the amp. And adjusted my headunit after that to my liking.

My question is this. How or what do i need to do to get these babies to sing. I have read that they sound incredible and have awesome midbass.

Do they need to break in before the midbass is present? How should I set up my settings? I am a noob and dont really know what to do now.

I have read that some people run 100 - 150w rms to the components..How do I know what I am putting to mine at the moment, or how can i get my best output from them?

Do i need to mess with the bass boost dial on the amp any?

Adjust any HPF or EQ or Loud settings on the headunit?

Really I just need to know where I need to go now or start since I am an audio noob, to get my PG RSD-65CS to play like everyone else raves about??

Thanks!

haha i would probably turn the gain up. Set the high pass to 80hz is available, turn bass boost off. Loud off. all setting to a medium as in bass, mid, treb. levels be on 0 with the options being -5 to +5. then i mean if you need more bass turn the bass up if you want more highs turn the highs up.... You honestly need a DMM or something like that to see how many watts you are putting to them to make sure you aren't clipping the signal, but if you can tell distortion then adjust it your self. If you arent comfortable.... take it to a local shop?

ok, thanks for the great info...where can I pick up this "DMM" and can you point me to a thread where I can learn how to use?

Drop your HPF to 63Hz I have the same exact comps but running on a JL 300/2. Thats the only thing I had to do to get more bass out of them. If you still aren't getting bassyness out of them, its the song. I have mine running 150x2 RMS and they handle it fine. You can pick up a digital multimeter from walmart for about $18. Set it to the 200V option and put the red "stick" on the + speaker out (doesn't matter which channel as long as you use the same channel ground) and the black on the negative speaker out while playing a 1000Hz sine wave at 3/4 volume on the head unit. Adjust gains and watch the Volts grow. JL recommended 24.5V for my amp at 150x2 so yours should be about 22.360679V. Volts = sqrt(watts x ohms) I recommend taking out the speaker wires before doing this because it hurt my ears with earplugs in.
