installed and not impressed

Dare I suggest turning on the LOUDNESS button //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif
GF's car has a cheapo Pioneer HU that's 2v preouts and the ONLY way I can get decent output to sub and speakers is using loudness on setting #2. Otherwise it all sounds flat, even with amp gains at max.

Same sub/amp that rocked in my car off an Excelon with 4.5v preouts sounded like *** in her car until I started trying the loudness settings as it has 3 levels. So many guys consider it the kiss of death that I didn't even consider it for a few weeks. Glad I finally did as it was like night and day.
i afraid that may cause clipping to the signal with all that signal boost.

I do have a pioneer premier HU . deh-p960mp. great deck w/ nice eq and active x-over capabilities (pro-mode). if you're interested. 6.5v preout also.

maybe HU isnt the prob

I went to my uncle's house.. and we began to troubleshoot... He has 2 SVC 4ohm RipHammer 12's tuned to 34HZ on a 1200watt MA Audio Amp..HU is a pioneer 7700 i think.. sounds nice and clean... since they're 1000RMS we put my mojo on his setup and it sounded unreal... Probably one of the best all around setups that ever caught my ear.. SQ was on point and we shook everything in the truck...

so next we drop my SXs in the box... and it sounds like the same ***! a dull rattling bass thats more annoying than loud.. and just an all around disapponitin experience.. I have my woofer wiring guide printed so im 100% its wired at 2ohms.. just a shitty and discouraging experience..

Next we put his RipHammers back in his box and leave my amp on em just to cleanse our ears of the Brown notes played by my SXs.. well we get it wired and they sound like as much *** as my SXs do.. exact same rattling and crappy bass.. you wouldnt have thought I ever unhooked the SXs.. sounded exactly the same...CRAPPY

then we hook his MA Audio back up... wow .. Like night and day.. the crisp sound comes back and we are back where we started!

What on gods green earth can be wrong? It isnt the HU.. or at least its not the Main factor since the SX's sounded like a fat man in the can on the nice Pioneer deck.. I doubt my box is the prob either.. Granted my box needs to be re-siliconed and braced some more, but I know thats not it either... So are my SXs F'd up or is it the amp? my thoughts: Cant be the amp cuz the 2nd subs sounded so good on it at 1st... Then again it cant be the subs cuz the 2nd Subs also sounded the Exact same on the second run!

So if his setup sounds good as is then try putting your box and speakers on his setup. If it is still good put in your amp and so on one thing at a time and as soon as it sounds bad there is your problem.

I would rewire the subs anyways. Even if your 100% sure it is correct. Do it anyways. I would just remove everything reinstall it. Or give it to a pro/shop and let them deal with the headache. :p If nothing else they will tell you for sure what is wrong. But a diff shop then you went to b4 just tell them your not there to buy anything and thats that.

heres what happened

you wired the SX's wrong, played them and nothiced there was a problem, but ut was too late.

you need to test the SX's on a DMM

then try your amp on his subs/box again, and go from there`

I tested em when I uninstalled em from his box.. they sit about 2.4 ohms.. other than that what do you mean? I dont know any ther way to wire then to 2 ohms! I have used the rockford wiring wizard printoff to make sure theyre wired right!

I have a wire from one VC pos to the oppisite VC neg and wire from the empty pos to the amp and a wire from the empty neg to the amp.. and the 2nd sub is ran the exact same way

i never tried his amp on my subs

RipHammer + his box+ MA = Nice

RipHammer + His Box + Mojo = Friggin SWEET

RE SX12s + His Box+ Mojo = Sh!T

then

RipHammer + his Box + Mojo = Sh!T

RipHammer + his Box + Ma Audo = Nice again

I dont quite see how it happened like that but it did

The RipHammers look exactly like an Audio SD2 except with RIpHammer on the dustcap..a Magnet boot and other light differences.. They have great SQ on 1200 watt and sing at 2000 at ohms

Yes! thats my point!!! They sounded great the 1st time.. then we tried mines then we tried his again and the sounded as bad as my SX's...I wish i knew

some kinda ****ing intermittent problem seems like. still could be the HU acting up. electronics are funny...and intermittent electronics problems are even funnier...and equally depressing.

Yup. Everything could be installed perfect but still something is wrong so you unhook everything and put it together the same way and everything works great. Funny how that works. I think that the second run with the same setup something was not done correctly.

Lets just say that it wasn't. Even a single strand of wire touching the wrong spot causes things to go wrong. Or accidentally hooking up pos to neg and vice versa. When things start to let me down I start to get careless and slap things together. Not saying that is what happened just saying maybe the second run something was not perfect like the first run.
