Hey, I am looking for a new processor; hard drive; and memory card. My current computer is an HP pavillion a287x. 2600+ processor (which is slow as crap) 80GB HD (90% full) and 512MB of DDR Memory. I am a novice on upgrading computer components, so please be extra explanatory. Thanx, Quintin.

Is this for a carputer, or just a general computer?

If so, what's your budget?

The new Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs are pretty much unbeatable in terms on money and speed.

I'd go with 1 or 2 GB of DDR2 RAM. Maybe one of the newer nVidia DX10 video cards and a MoBo to math with the CPU. Also, you can't go wrong with a Seagate 7200 RPM HDD.

Send me a PM if you want me to help you out further.

How much you looking to spend? What do you do with your computer? Game? Video editing? just browsing?

You can do an ok upgrade by increasing your memory and adding a new hard drive. You could even add a new processor to that motherboard, although you would be limited on your options there. That motherboard also only offers AGP 4X for video cards which is extremely weak if you are into gaming at all.

yeah when u get in to buying a new processor, normally u will want to upgrade motherboards, and then you will probably want to upgrade ur ram, and if its a newer mobo ur gonna want one of the latest gen video cards that supports it, then u want a harddrive probly

it can get expensive

I am furious at this thing. I go to open up a program and it takes fooooooorever just to open up. I run my Norton daily and constantly erase my browsing history to keep out spyware. I am thinking about just buying a new laptop due to the fact that I want WIFI also. I am not a gamer, as I have the PS3 for that. I do have a lot of programs on my computer though....Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.

That would be most of you problem. Norton sucks and is basically a virus itself.

Download AVG Anti-virus as well as Adaware SE and run both of those.

Also, check info on this site on how to remove Norton...trust me, your computer will run like brand new after you do this.

If your looking into something better, i'll post some stuff that should help you out.

Intel C2D E6400 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115004

For hard drive, i'm sure how big you want, so either Western Digital or Seagate will be good choices

If your not into gaming or just a little gaming this EVGA 7600 GS should do you well

And then to power it all a Enermax Liberty

I build my friend something similar to this setup. And he loves it. I don't know what your budget is or anything, but this should help decided what you want. You don't have to go with this, just throwing some ideas out there.
