So I installed the head unit, and the two grounds of the Big 3 today in the Jeep. But for the alternator wire of the big three I can't fit my ring terminal in to the post because the post is shrouded in metal to the point where it will only accept one the size of the factory, however you can still access the screw and all that. I feel what I need would be a post extender??? To add more threads and a platform to screw my ring terminal for alt to battery on? All help is appreciated //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I had a plastic shroud around the battery wire post on my new alt and used some nips to cut about half of it off to get my ring to where it would finally fit in there properly. You might have to dremel it out on the alt side or the ring side. How wide is the passage on the shroud at its narrowest?

AAhhhhhh ok makes better sense now.

Bring it to my house....I'll mill that mutherfucker off!!

in all seriousness, that back cover should be removeable. See if you can hacksaw that shroud off. Just be careful and use caution please.

The Shroud on mine is metal. I would really like to not mess with The Originals on this Jeep as it is one of 4000 like it. I have talked to some other guys and have decided on possibly using a coupler with some all thread to increase my post lengths

Either that, or cutting the ring terminal to fit.

you could do that. Less flow path that way tho. I dont think youd run into much trouble if you used a tremel with a silicon carbide bit and a steady hand ans the housing is likely aluminum. It would require you taking the alternator off tho. In either event, please do what boomin said and use caution.

Doing this big 3 isn't messing with "the originals"? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif
By "originals" I mean doing no modifications to the original pieces that can't be un done. For instance. All these big 3 wires can be removed. A sub box can be taken out of the back (why I'm not doing a wall) and a headunit can be taken out and the original put back in.

But I should also probably just chill and cut the shroud off lol.
This. Who cares if it's cut. Everything else you want to stay original w/o mods should be ok. Doubt anyone is gonna notice should you ever decide to sell it one day.

What is so special about this jeep that you wanna maintain its originality?
It's a 1998 grand Cherokee limited with the 5.9L Mopar 360. That engine was only put in the grand Cherokee in 98. Only 14000 were made. Only 4000 of that 14000 were made with California compliant emissions. Mine is California compliant. It is also in pristine condition considering age.

True and I'll be buying a new alternator very soon anyway. Like a Mechman elite or something
