howdy--

i am trying to setup to alpine type r 1222s', which is the dual 2ohm voice coil model, and an orion hcca250 amplifier. i want to get the subs down to 1ohm. i am vague about ohm's law and would like a little assistance if someone has it to offer.

i have been trying to come up with different diagrams to express what i think will work, but i keep erasing them as too unclear, so instead of the mess in my head will you please share some of the clarity from yourn?

so here again:

two alpine type r swr 1222d dual 2 ohm voice coil

1 orion hcca250 amp

i want to run the amp at 1 ohm.

thanks,

You can't run 2, 2 DVC to 1 ohm, you can only wire them to 8 ohms, 2 ohms, and .5 ohm.

your best bet there would be to wire them to 2ohms, or swap out the subs for dual 4's

dang. i thought i was being so smart getting the two dual 2ohm voice coil type r subs.

hey, jbizzle, do you know does that hcca250 amp run stable at .5 ohms? or, do you all think that the type rs' would be "loud enough" running the orion at 2 ohms? i think it would give me somewhere around 400 watts rms to feed both type rs' which are 500 watts rms to begin with.

am i, gulp and a shudder, under amplified? i have such high hopes for that orion amp.

i will take everyones advice and go check out the 12volt and in particular, the jbizzle link,

hxxp://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/wo...s.asp?Q=2&I=22, so thanks for the input and i will keep the advice in mind as i search the eternal search for better sound.

I can't find that model on their website, but if its splitting 400 to each of them, then you're under powering them and not getting their full potential, how long ago did you purchase these subs? if not, try to swap out the subs for dual 4's ( i had to pay $250 for 1 sub from MTX just to get a dual 4 ) but if you purchased them recently you might be able to get away with it. if not, look for a amp that runs 1000watts+ rms @ 2 ohms

Thanks for putting effort into my problems, i do appreciate it, and i too came up with the distressing truth, as jbizzle says, i need to "look for a amp that runs 1000watts+ rms @ 2 ohms"to get those type r's to really be used correctly or i guess i could try to dig up another first gen hccca250, although i usually only see second gen gear available.

i am still waiting for the subs to arrive actually, so maybe i can talk them into switching to the dual 4ohm coil.

thanks for advice.
