How would I wire this? I dont want it on 2-4-7. It says it comes with a pos + and a neg - wires. So I was just going to run the pos and neg from the volt meter to the pos and neg on my sub amp. But it willl be on continuously. So how do I get it from staying on all the time and is that the right way to wire it.

Oh well. It was only $5 so I bought the one that you guys suggested. Now I can just wire it pos to pos. neg to neg. remote to remote right?

to wire up a 2-wire just use an ignition voltage wire behind the dash. it's the same as the battery voltage which is what you care about, and it turns off with the car.

i have mine running off ignition source also. works great and is maybe .1-.2 off the actually reading at amp post

measuring battery voltage will always read higher than at the amp because of voltage drop at the amp.

the main reason to have a volt meter is to ensure your battery is properly charging - by making sure you achieve >13.8V while driving on a regular basis. for this purpose, monitoring at the head unit or dash is fine.
