install 1/4" headphones to car stereo

Hi all,

My car radio has a tape deck with FM/AM radio, as all do, but has buttons for Tape, FM, AM, and CD. The CD button is not in use.

What I'm wondering is if there is a way to use that button to toggle between the radio, tape deck, and an ipod, zune, mp3 player by soldering on the ends of a 1/4" headphone wire. Where would the two headphone lines be soldered to and how can I get the CD button to function as a toggle switch? Can this be done??

Thanks in advance,

Johnny B

It depends entirely on your radio. When you click the CD button, is this to switch to an external CD player/changer? If so, then yes, it should be possible. You would need to get a wiring diagram for the wires coming out of the back of the radio. What model is it?

I have a 1999 Toyota Corolla. The radio in right now is the standard radio the car came with. The CD button was for a CD player option, which I did not take since I bought the car used. The CD player was not installed but could have been. So basically, its just a toggle button sitting there not being used.
