Inside of Sub box question

I'm not sure exactly how it works, but I think flexing will take away from the performance of the speaker. Not to mention, when it flexes it will change the air space of the box, and probably rattle loose the silicone, or whatever you will use for a sealant. It might even vibrate. On top of that, you need it to insulate quite well so none of the inside sound escapes the box.
If I were you I would talk to a glass shop and try to get something thicker. But if you have it in there, why not try it out and see what it does.

Other than that the rest looks awesome. That is going to be a sweet looking enclosure. Very nicely done.

You are correct... That is what I have come to know as the truth. Flexing = bad.

Yeah I'll have to test it out once I finish, like I said it wouldn't be very hard to swap in something thicker. Also what might help with the performance thing even if sound waves escape from the back is that I guess the baffle in a way helps isolate the front from the back (kind of like a infinite baffle enclosure). I'm gonna work on it some more today so I'll upload some more pics later.

Yeah I went to Lowes today and picked up a 1/4" piece, its a whole lot thicker and doesn't flex unless you put a ton of pressure on it (especially with the small size of the window). Anyways, I swapped it out and also got the sub amp mounted. Now all thats left is the 4 channel amp mounting and put the 2 windows in, paint the inside and then put it all back in the car. Of course I still have to carpet it too but I don't have like any money right now so I gotta wait like a week or 2. Here's some pics of what I've done today, I'm hoping to finish tonight, things would go so much faster if I had a table saw and saw horses and just better tools in general.

I also thought about adding some PC fans for cooling and for the look like on the sides of the amp mounts. Let me know what you guys think.

Already thought about that just gotta cut the holes. The way I have it designed too is so to get the piece off that the amp is atually mounted too, you just unscrew the screws in the rear and pop it off.

lookin pretty good, fairly well thought out and should be really nice when you get it all finished up. Have you decided on what you are going to finish the inside of the box with? and what sort of lighting you are going to use as well? Should come out really nice if you take your time and don't go over board.

I was going to do something similiar to this. Since the plexiglass allows you to see inside I was going to use special paint(s) and install black lights inside the box that way it "pops" out at you.

Ok so here's the update. Got the second amp mounted, took a little longer because of clearance issues with the rear speaker so I had to recess it like 1" less and use some thinner mdf for a for 2 of the sides, but you can't really tell. I was putting in the thinner plexiglass for the amp windows and was drilling the holes for the screws when the bit broke and then my drill hit the window I was creating and cracked a big chunk out of the plexiglass. So I have to get another piece but I put the other one on and decided just to use silicone since it won't be under any significant pressure. Here's what it looks like:

Hey Look! There is a Civic on that sub enclosure! lol.

That looks very very nice. Think that the amps will have heat sync issues? I had a similar setup in my F150 and I had major issues with the amps cutting out because they got to hot. The amps are fine though, obviously it's a trip to avoid damage. It was really annoying though.

I'm spending a lot of time learning about these enclosures so I can possibly make my own. I need a pretty custom application for my Sport Trac.
