Hello all, I was hoping someone could make a suggestion for mounting my newly upgraded Dynaudio MW170 (about 7.5" or so) in my factory door locations using wood, and no glass. I was hoping to make a baffle that was angled up a lil if possible.
Originally 3 weeks ago I had mounted Dynaudio MW160 is the doors of my 300C (1st pic). I wanted to have the MW170 and figured big deal 10 mm more, well I was wrong. These things are monsters in comparison. The mounting hole was like 1.25" larger than the 160 and a little deeper which is not a problem.
In the factory location, there is a hard plastic baffle that is angled to contour to the door. What I did originally was made a 5/8" MDF Baffle that I inserted into the center of the hole that was made to fit the factory 6x9". Then I cut a hole for the MW160 which was only about 5.25".
I had 2 ideas - both of these ideas will get the speaker mounted, then I will have to figure out a trim afterward.
1. I was thinking of still using the factory baffle (pic of the plastic piece), mounting another baffle at an angle to get the woofer pointed up a lil.
2. I was thinking of not using the factory piece at all, and simply mount from the back of the plastic door panel a 3/4" baffle the same size as the opening you see there (I have seen this done before and it turned out great). I just dont understand how solid this would be? Or if its a terrible idea or what? When I had the MW160 mounted to the factory pod it sounded awesome and seemed to be mounted very solidly.
If anyone has any mounting suggestions or Ideas that might help me I would greatly appreciate it! If you have pics to post that would be awesome too!
Thank you in advance, Paul.
