so i was set on throwing in jbl p660c's in the front stage on my 03 landcruiser with crescendo pwx6.5 in the rear doors. both sets of doors will be sealed and sound treated. My goal is a relatively budget front and mid stage. the headunit i am going to replace my factory with is the jvc kd-x33mbs because it is shallow and i am space limited. It has three 4v preout and a decent eq. Anyways, here's my proposed diy front stage with relevant info.

tweeter location: stock pillar

Stock door speaker size 6.5

amplifier: pioneer gm-d8604 or ppi 900.4

Proposed components of diy front stage (parts express/madisound)

- 6.5 silver flutes (4 ohm)

- Tang Band 25-302SH 1" Neodymium Soft Dome Tweeter

- Dayton Audio XO2W-2.5K 2-Way Speaker Crossover 2,500 Hz

Proposed Rear

- option one: 6.5 crescendo pwx6.5

- option two: 6.5 silver flute

Yeah i know, I'm likely going passive:( (passive shamers unite!) I don't think i can go active because the head unit i'm using won't send enough power to the tweeters (rms is 40 watts) and that deck is not to the same capabilities as a pioneer 80prs. That's why I scoped out this crossover set. Not too expensive at around $25/ea. I selected the tang band because they're 8 ohm as required for that crossover and it will fit in the stock pillar with only little modification. got solid feedback too. (Also, vifa xt25's are 4ohm..sad)

Would anyone care to give me some feedback my proposed setup? alternatively, feedback on perhaps a similar budgeted car audio 2way crossover that would allow me to pair the silverflutes with a 4ohm tweeter (vifa xt25). I'll buy pre-loved (used)

Silver flutes are AWESOME, but massive. Have you measured to make sure you can actually fit them? I'd not spend any money on the rear doors though. If you insist on keeping speakers back there, just keep the stock one s(unless they're blown) and just keep them on head unit power. Then you can use your amp to run the tweeters if you need to. Or pick a different 4 channel thats a little less power and bridge it to run the Flutes, and see how the tweeters do. A very small amp to power the tweeters later if necessary would be dirt cheap.

As far as running active and getting power to the tweeters goes though, you'd be very surprised. Tweeters are very sensitive & efficient, it doesn't take nearly as much power to get a 1" dome moving as it does a much larger speaker cone. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised. Not to mention your head unit doesn't do anywhere 40 watts continuous, more like ~20. I'd absolutely run active. Test them off the head unit power, and if it's not enough change amp setups.

I hope you stick with the Tang Band tweeters, as I have a set waiting to go in my truck, and would love to hear your impression of them. I also have Silver Flutes, but I have the 8's, which I may stick in the rear doors of my truck. Im hoping if I cross them well (low) enough, the sound may stay hidden, such as the subs. If not, the passengers can enjoy them.

I ended up getting the ssa evil 6.5s. I got 8 ohm versions and have them running off the rear channels bridged of my tn4.900. Something isn't right though, having tuning issues because I can't get them to sound right.

Keep the current head unit and get a mini dsp 2x4 instead or a cheap 8 channel dsp like the cadence dsp or this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Precision-Power-PPi-DSP-88R-8-Channel-31-Band-Equalizer-Digital-Sound-Processor-/181787861734?hash=item2a5366a2e6:g:yPcAAOSwT6pVkGEX.

Also have a soundstream harmony dsp I can let go for cheap as well if you want to buy used. You can try it out before buying too and see how you like it. Since you local lol.
