What amp are you running? From the sounds of it, you seem to get quite a bit of spl from your references. I'm running one 12" reference 1242 with a cheap 1000max watt crunch amp(box didn't even state rms lol but I'm guessing 400-500rms). It's in a sealed enclosure and I'm getting good sound quality but in terms of spl, it doesn't seem to be pushing enough.

i got a pair of the older ones, off-white cone, and there kinda loud, but i emailed infinity to see how big of a differance there would be in SPL and one of the guys i emailed said it would be the same and one said there would be a small increase, both said they would sound better.

Go ported if you want any type of loudness... they are great SQ drivers sealed, but ported they open up...

I'm pushing them with about 600 each when i burp them to see how loud they get... if i was you, i would invest in an orion 600d for one 12" and port it... 2 cubes tuned to 30 for sq, 35 for more output

I'd like to ask infinity if they really did up the power handling and keep the rms the same for precautionary measures...

If I get an amp that pushes more like the orion, do you think I should upgrade the wires to 4 gauge from 8 gauge?

Harman International has ALWAYS made SQ products. Don't get me wrong, they have stuff that gets loud very easily (cough JBL Pro cough). They have always made very good quality products. Infinity is SQ end of story.
