there is a difference between simple mods trying to class up a car, and major modifications such as: crooked wheels, over the top lowering of the vehicle, body kits, stripper poles. ect. Like the definition of poser said "exaggerated" which the vip style and your modifications are.
Basically it looks like crap because none of it is subtle.
Shall I post the badass car again for ya? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
vip can be subtle or aggressive. You are making WAY too many assumptions about the scene. Like assuming people don't modify the engine, which is completely WRONG. Most enthusiasts modify the performance with at least bolt ons. Others go as far as engine swaps, custom turbo setups, etc.
The most important aspect about the vip scene (BTW its not an acronym, its a word) is the platform. Generally, the G35 is not an ideal cantidate (no offense donpisto). It would be considered vip STYLE at most. Only the flagship big bodied sedans are used. NOT midsize, must be RWD with at least 8 cylinders. The U.S. Doesn't have very many options when compared to Japan, but generally the list is exclusively reserved to:
Infiniti Q45
Lexus LS400/430/460
Lexus GS400 (little stretch)
Infiniti M45 (again, a little stretch)
In Japan, you have:
Toyota Century, Celsior, Aristo, Crown, and Majesta.
Nissan President, Cima, Gloria, and Cedric
THATS it. These aren't cheap cars. At least 50K+ when new. The main theme of the scene is to make the car UNIQUE. Whether it be custom body work, custom interiors with luxurious amenities and custom engine work.
Why, do you ask? Because any regular joe can go buy himself a Mercedes, Lexus, Infiniti, or any other luxury brand and blend with the rest. For that matter, any average joe can slap some wheels and drop springs and call it customized.
It takes creativity to set yourself apart from the rest. A real enthusiast recognizes, REGARDLESS on what the scene is (be it import, vip, muscle, off-road, etc). To think outside the norm and create something new. Its not just about buying parts. Donpisto had the right idea with the stripper pole. Its something that hasn't really been done (at least not often). It makes his car unique.
I really couldn't care less if you or others liked it or not. But don't call the scene a bunch of posers just because you don't understand the community. It's like me telling a muscle car guy to buy more up to date technology. Its a hobby and a passion.
