This makes me believe that you have never been profiled. What do you think police are going to base their "suspicion" of illegal residency on? Police have a basis to search your car if they "suspect" you have illegal drugs or weapons in your vehicle. "Suspicion" gives police way too much discretion to do as they please. They could be "suspicious" just because someone barely speaks English.
And being asked for ID to open a bank account is different than being asked for proof of residency just for standing outside a Home Depot or not being able to speak English. From my experience being racially profiled sucks. I don't appreciate being looked at like some criminal by some ignorant officer. And then they always say "I'm just doing my job" lol that crap kills me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
This makes me believe you are being intentionally obtuse. Is standing outside Home Depot breaking a law? Is not speaking english well breaking a law? If you say yes, seek help. If you say no, go re-read where I pointed out you obviously dont have any idea what the law says. At least find out what the law says before you start trying to pigeon hole it.

Google

I dont mean to be so blunt, but Ive said multiple times now you have to have *broken a law* for you to even have a chance of being asked for proof of residency. That right there shuts down your misguided notion of rampant invasions of privacy by racist cops. Dont want to have to be bothered by pulling the green card out of your wallet (I know, how difficult and humiliating) ? Then dont break a law. Break a law, and assume your right to privacy in terms of proof of who you are and where you live is forfeit. If I break a law, I have to produce identification which, among other things, proves my legal status. Any immigrant, legal or otherwise, should expect the exact same treatment.

Yes, Ive been profiled before, by the police. Nice try. You act like the cop ***** you, get over it. There are plenty of unpleasant things we have to deal with every day thanks to a few ruining it for the rest of us. If you are mad at being racially profiled as being an illegal immigrant, get angry at the illegal immigrants who created the situation. I dont like having to pull my ID out of my wallet when I write a check, but i dont blame the clerk, I blame the thieves who have created a situation in which we cant simply trust we are who we say we are. If you feel violated for having to prove your identification/residency, feel free to move to some country where they have open borders and no immigration laws, no taxes, no rules. Good luck.

It's crazy how this tends to apply to minorities. After the whole Jihad Jane thing I haven't noticed airport security performing a bunch of "random searches" on Caucasian women with blond hair that come through the airport. But let some middle eastern with a beard and turban come in and it's time for a "random search". I guess white women can't look "suspicious".
At the airport, when you are asked to perform a random search, do you blame the security officer for the inconvenience, or the law breakers who have created a situation in which we must use such precautions?

You're assuming that all police officers follow the law by the book and that is not the case at all. Police walk up to groups of people all the time and question them. I've seen it happen plenty of times. I personally don't mind showing my ID to write a check or use a credit card, it's better than someone stealing my identity. All I'm saying is being racially profiled sucks. And it's going to **** for the hispanics that are here legally to have their citizenship questioned. The law is what it is and I don't see it changing any time soon so what ever.

Never been randomly searched at the airport. But when i got pulled over by an officer late at night with no other cars on the road for going 10 mph over the speed limit, I think there may have been a little profiling going on there. Young black male in a grand marquis.

So now we are going to make or avoid making laws based on that some cops are crooked? What the hell, why have any laws at all then. Great logic.

And once this crooked racist evil cop has illegally found a group of illegal aliens, he'll then no doubt devise some cunning plan to frame them for a law they did not break in order to be questioned in the first place.

Your steadfast determination to hold onto the idea people will be racially profiled, when the Az law went well out of its way to implement safe guards against that very thing, only shows your bias on this topic no matter what the real facts are. The law could say you must be blonde, blue eyed and convicted of murder before a cop can ask if you live here legally, and you'd still claim the cop will use that to pick on Mexicans.

You dont think you should get pulled over, late at night, for driving 10mph over the speed limit? Oh yeah, great call, clearly that was society keeping a brother down. lmao

I was pulled over once, after midnight, because the car I recently purchased had the dealer tag in the rear window, where the dealer put it. The cop explained it was illegal and was required to be on the normal plate location, and when I told him Id never even touched the temp tag and the dealer himself had put it there, the cop replied "yeah I know... may I search your vehicle for drugs or weapons?". Unlike you, I did nothing wrong, the cop knew it, and he still proceeded to call a 3-car back up and leave me standing there 45 mins while he tore my new car apart looking for drugs. Should I be pissed I was racially profiled? You at least broke a law to get pulled over, the cop knew I hadnt. So again, do I have an argument for racially profiling too? Im white.

I simply cant believe you think you got pulled over because you are black. Ive had speeding tickets for less than 10mph over the limit. Take some personal responsibility, my god.

Where in the world did you get this from lol? I'm saying the law in question could lead officers to racially profile hispanics. Just because officials have said the law isn't intended to profile doesn't mean it's not going to happen. Just saying something doesn't make it true.

You really believe that no police officer is going to use this law as an excuse to racially profile Hispanics in Arizona? I never said all cops will but there's no doubt in my mind that some will.

Never said I got pulled over simply because I was black. Never said I didn't break the law. Officers pull over people at their own discretion. Depending on where you're at circumstances are different. It's difficult for a white male to understand racial profiling. But you'll probably argue that point too and tell me you know more about being a young black male in America than me.

What part of "they must break a law for this possibility to even occur" do you not get?
And lets face it, every single person who is caught breaking the law is asked for ID, every last one. So call it profiling that every illegal immigrant will be asked if you want, but that ignores that every single legal resident will be asked as well.

You just keep trying to spin and spin. Unfortunately, in this case the difference between wrong and right is a bit too obvious for you to be successful.

I cannot believe you think all officers fully obey the law and there's no such thing as police harassment, and police only question people doing something illegal.

So in your world the process goes: questioned by cop > deported...? So a cop questions someone they dont like because they are brown or black or gay or their ex girlfriend... that's a long leap in logic to deported out of the country. Apparently not only the cop is crooked and dirty, so is the district attorney, the judge, the jury (if applicable), the bailiff, the stenographer, etc.

You haven't thought your paranoia through very far. So quit trying to push it off on the rest of us.

An officer could easily walk up to a group of hispanics standing outside a store and say they're loitering and ask for documentation. If there was just some white males standing in the same spot they might just ask them to leave. That is reality. If you don't think so then maybe you've just never seen stuff like this happen but I've seen it so there's pretty much nothing you can tell me to convince me it doesn't happen.
